I live many states away from my family and friends, so I need a travel rewards credit card! The Capital One Venture Rewards card is awesome. It is easy to earn and redeem travel credits, and the online interface is so easy to use. I would definitely recommend this card for the frequent traveler, especially if you’re always on different airlines!
I am very, very pleased with the Bank of America Bank Americard. I get cash on every purchase, and extra cash back on groceries and gas. The online interface is incredibly easy to use, letting me see exactly how much cash back I have earned with each purchase, what my balance is, and how much cash back I have earned in total. I can easily apply the cash back to my balance—so in a way, it is a percent off my purchases! It is easier and faster to earn the rewards than with my Capital One Venture card. I have been using this card to make my every day purchases, and then paying it off at the end of every week. I would highly recommend this card!
The biggest trap involving pre-paid debit cards is the fees. Pay very close attention to when you’ll be charged those extra fees and alter your behavior accordingly. That said, the KAIKU Visa prepaid card charges a monthly fee and a fee for using out-of-network ATMs. If you use this card, you can easily avoid the ATM fee by making sure you only use the in-network machines. You might have to make an extra trip out of your way, but it is worth it to get your cash for free. Additionally, KAIKU charges a $1.95 monthly fee. This is relatively low, compared to other cards like the Chase Liquid prepaid debit card, which charges monthly fees of $4.95. I would recommend the KAIKU Visa prepaid card to someone looking for a low-cost prepaid card.
Generally, store-specific credit cards are only advantageous to the consumer if you shop at the store often, or plan to make a large purchase and want to take advantage of special card-member perks. Unless you are shopping for big-ticket items, the Crate and Barrel card is not particularly beneficial. The interest rate is fairly high, but it does offer perks like cash back (at a rate of $10 back for $200 in purchases) and six-month financing offers. For everyday use, there is no benefit to the consumer. I would only recommend this card for people who are planning a major purchase at Crate and Barrel. You are better off with a cash back card, like Bank Americard, for everyday use.
I have had this card for about a year and a half and am very pleased. The online interface is easy to use, so managing purchases and payments is very easy. I am able to set up balance alerts, payment reminders, and other email alerts that make managing payments very easy. I pay on time and in full each month, so my rewards have accumulated quickly. I have used both the Purchase Eraser function and the balance credit function. You get a much better value out of your points with the Travel Purchase Eraser, so I always make sure to book travel on this card and then I can use those points to help pay it down. I have not used their travel booking section.
