We give 1 star because we had personable loan
officer who we knew was trying his best, though
rest of the staff there were too slow and lacking
The rest of BBVA mortgage experience as we were trying to close on buying our home was just horrific. They are bad at keeping deadlines and the details, which is quite anxiety provoking when trying to close on a home in 30 days or less. Firstly, they took almost 10 days to get an apprasial confirmed when we had an apprasail contingency in shorter than that, and each time they said they would keep a deadline they would miss it. After that our loan approval was pending, we had all our documents in within 14 days of Escrow, but a loan administrator sat on the file for over a week and did NOTHING to push it forward, meanwhile BBVA was not requesting proper documents from our employers or insurance which delayed further, and we had to step in.multiple times just to spark things going again. When it came down to the wire, they submitted our file for “review” and it took a whole week just to get the loan approved after they had already delayed it. This resulted in frustrating everyone involved in closing, prolonging escrow, worrying the listing team and sellers, putting our earnest deposit at risk, and also resulted in us having to take work leave (and resulting frustrations at our employers) and costing us money. We eventually did close (after they also made mistakes and needed additional documents at the last moment, that they should have asked for on day 1 of escrow). We appreciated our main loan officer doing what he could, but BBVA is severely lacking in professionalism and timeliness as an organization.
Throughout this process I had to email and call them multiple times a week just to get an update response, often times they would not respond for a week. And in the end after me asking several times in a polite way if they had all documents needed, they still were lacking them in the final moments before closing.
I DO NOT recommend BBVA if you are at all in a competitive buyers market as they will slow you down and cause your money to be at risk from their inability to keep any deadlines. Now that we are mortgage, I fully expect more problems to arise and we very much look forward to the day we can refinance and leave BBVA.… read more
