I highly recommend not opening up this card, and
here is why:
When I opened the card I was in college and, admittedly, had garbage credit. Despite this I was still approved for a relatively low line. For years I used the card and continuously made on-time payments, and generally kept a balance of $0. During those years I also worked *very* hard to increase my credit scores. A few months ago, Synchrony bank decided to lower my credit line by roughly half due to my "credit worthiness," which was actually in 'good' standing by at least Transunion's standards. I called and complained that this was done 1) unnecessarily and 2) without my permission - all to be told there was nothing that could be done. As a side note, I also was not able to take the customer survey at the conclusion of not only the original call I made, but also a second call I made stating that I wanted to take the survey. Fast forward to this month when Synchrony bank decided to close my account altogether (again, unecessarily and without my permission) due once again to my "credit worthiness" which ironically was higher than when they previously lowered the line. This has caused my credit score (Transunion) to drop by 73 points!! When I called the number on the back of the card to complain, I was told by the rep and her supervisor that Synchrony has "no control of what happens to [my] credit" and that there is no way to reverse this decision. And, once again, I was not prompted to take the customer survey.
Also, I did not receive multiple rewards certificates over the duration of my using this card. I worked at Homegoods for several years and this was actually a common customer complaint. That and the absurdly high median APR.
It's surprising and disappointing how little Synchrony actually cares about their customers. If you care about your credit, quality customer service, or actually receiving 100% of your "guaranteed" rewards certificates, DO NOT OPEN THIS CARD. If you have opened this card, do not count on any representative (basic rep to supervisor to manager) to actually do anything if you have a valid complaint. This is why I'm resorting to putting them on blast online. I hope that this review can help at least one person from making the same mistake that I made in opening up this card.… show more
