There are a couple of other odd things about this credit union as well. Every *week* their online portal and application are unavailable due to "maintenance," I work in IT, but if your system requires weekly maintenance just to keep running, then there is something *wrong* there, especially for a banking institution. It just seems fragile.
I will be switching back to my local credit union and will close out this account as soon as I can. Their little "Account holds" might be legal, but it's still my money. I earned it, and they get to hold it and invest with it at my discretion.

I was a member for over 50 years. Was really good when members managed it back in 60s and 70s. Interest paid on savings "shares" were as high as they could pay because it is not for profit. Things changed when it changed from UAL Employee Credit Union to stockholder Alliant Credit Union along with typical garbage management, all for top people getting or voting themselves huge salaries and expense accounts etc. Now I AM WARNING ALL WHO READ THIS. The credit union has "merged" with Continental CU. Bull, Am suspicious of their definition of "merge". Just like when UAL bought and "merged" with Cont. Their looser management managed to get rid of UAL processes and personnel who did not fit Texas anti-people style. You have already seen savings rates fall, they used to be and could/should be higher than any other bank. After all, they still say they are a not-for-profit bank, all for the members. They closed all branch offices so now you have to call. I will say that all those new hires in ORD that answer are very nice. They are now closing small accounts like for children and dumping the money into gov. abandoned account and you have to get it back. I got out a few months ago. Took my 250k to another bank that is FDIC ins.

If they wanted all this stuff, should have made it part of application. If this is how things will start out with Alliant, foolish to think it will get better. I will take my business elsewhere.

If there were a lower star I would give it. My mother in law had accounts here, after her death they were not only slow and awful to communicate with, they made my husband jump through hoops, call multiple times, re-email, send through certified mail and nothing was good enough. Not only have they STILL not released her funds, they have hung up on a grieving son, not returned calls or allowed us to move on grieve through the holidays. Her accounts at 3 other credit unions have all been resolved - this one is nasty. During a difficult time they showed pure ugliness.

STAY AWAY ***** STAY FAR, FAR AWAY ***** I applied for their 2.5% rebate Visa and was instantly approved. Just one teeny little problem ... they wanted me to become a credit union member first. No problem! said the website. Like an idiot, I believed it. Was I a government employee? A member of this or that community? No? How about we donate five bucks in your name to a charity? Ok. Now ... just a few more things — upload your driver license, utility bill, and social security card. Huh? For a credit union app? First off, you should NEVER give ANYONE your SS card — the one that says right on it NOT TO BE USED FOR ID. But like an idiot, I uploaded the license and bill and a completed W-9 form for the social — the correct form to request. Got an email from a “loan consultant” ignoring everything I’d sent, asking again for the same three items plus now two years’s tax returns, a blood sample, voting ID history and first-born child. I got the dipshit loan consultant on the phone and asked him if he was out of his f*ing mind. He hung up. Tries to reach anyone sane in the organization led to long holds with bad music peppered with occasional COVID excuses. Does any part of this sound like it’s for you?
