What's Your Rating?
It has been made clear throughout this process, that Bank of America does not value protecting the consumer rights of its clients. I will be canceling my credit card and plan to never use their services again after this terrible experience.

How does the Bank of America Travel Rewards rental car insurance work?
Bank of America Travel Rewards rental car insurance covers damage, theft, loss of use and towing charges for any rental car paid for with the BofA Travel Rewards card. It's a free benefit that pays up to the actual cash value of a rented vehicle. To get coverage, the cardholder must decline the rental agency's insurance and pay for the entire rental with the Travel Rewards card. The benefit covers domestic rentals up to 15 consecutive days. It's 31 days for rentals in another country. Coverage does not apply to vehicles rented in Israel, Jamaica, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Bank of America does not directly provide the rental car insurance on its cards. The Visa and Mastercard networks actually administer this benefit on all Bank of America credit cards. Your coverage depends on which network the card is on. For example, the Bank of America Travel Rewards card is a Visa Signature card. As such, it comes with Visa Signature's car rental insurance.
Bank of America Travel Rewards rental car insurance does not cover certain types of vehicles and situations. For example, the benefit covers only the rented vehicle. It does not cover damage to other vehicles, property or personal injuries. Coverage also does not apply to cargo vans, trucks, motorcycles or several other types of vehicles. And you won't be covered for any damages caused by drunk or reckless driving, among other situations.
Can you still get the Alaska Airlines 50,000 bonus miles?
No, the Alaska Airlines Credit Card 50,000 bonus is no longer available. However, the current bonus is actually higher. The Alaska Airlines Credit Card now offers $100 statement credit, 40,000 miles and a companion fare ticket for spending $2,000 in the first 90 days.
The bonus miles are worth hundreds of dollars when redeemed for airfare on Alaska Airlines or one of its 24 partner airlines. These include American Airlines, British Airways, Korean Air, and others.
Here's what the Alaska Airlines Credit Card currently offers:
- Get a $100 statement credit, 40,000 bonus miles and Alaska's Famous Companion Fare™ from $121 ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from just $22) after you make purchases of $2,000 or more within the first 90 days of opening your account.
- Every year on your account anniversary get another companion fare from $121 ($99 plus taxes and fees from $22) on Alaska flights booked on alaskaair.com. There are no blackout dates.
- Earn 3 miles for every $1 spent directly on Alaska Airlines purchases, and 1 mile per $1 spent everywhere else with no limit on miles earned.
- Free checked bag on Alaska flights for you and up to six other passengers on the same reservation (savings of $60 per person roundtrip).
- Redeem miles with no blackout dates on any Alaska Airlines flight or choose from hundreds of destinations with more than a dozen airline partners.
- Enjoy 50% off day passes at the Alaska Lounge and 20% back on all Alaska Airlines inflight purchases when you pay with your new card
If you're a business owner, the Alaska Airlines Visa® Business card is very similar to the consumer card. It also offers a bonus of 40,000 miles plus a companion fare ticket for spending $2,000 within the first 90 days. However, you'll need at least excellent credit to qualify for it.
How can I redeem my Bank of America Travel Rewards points?
You can redeem Bank of America Travel Rewards points for a statement credit to cover dining or travel purchases made in the past 12 months. BofA Travel Rewards points can also be used for gift cards or for cash back, via paper check or a Bank of America deposit-account credit. You can redeem your points by signing in to your account online or on the BofA mobile app, or by calling (888) 268-7800. The Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card gives at least 1.5 points per $1 spent on purchases, so that can add up quickly.
How to Redeem Bank of America Travel Rewards Points Online
- Log in to your Bank of America account online.
- Select the Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card.
- Click on the “Rewards” tab.
- Browse the rewards options and redeem your Travel Rewards points.
If you travel frequently, you should have no trouble redeeming your Bank of America Travel Rewards points. While you can't actually use points to purchase travel directly, you can pay for a travel purchase with the card through the BofA Travel Center and earn 3 points per $1 spent. Two days later, you can redeem those points to count toward the travel purchase as long as you have at least 2,500 points ($25 travel value).
If you don't want to wait, you can redeem immediately for cash back once you've collected at least 2,500 points ($15 cash back value). But you'll need at least 3,125 points to use Travel Rewards points for gift cards.
One great thing about redeeming Bank of America Travel Rewards points for your travel purchases is BofA's broad interpretation of what counts as a travel purchase. You can use points toward purchases at places like circuses, art galleries, amusement parks, tourist attractions, boat rental agencies, and zoos, along with your ordinary travel expenses like plane tickets and hotel reservations. And unlike a lot of other credit card companies, BofA counts Airbnb rentals in its travel category, which lets you use your points toward those purchases.

How can I use my Alaska Airlines Credit Card companion ticket?
To use the Alaska Airlines Credit Card companion ticket, log into your Alaska Airlines account, navigate to the “Discount and companion fare codes” section, and click the “Shop” button. When you make a reservation, your Alaska Airlines companion fare code will be automatically applied. You'll see it reflected in your shopping cart and on the “Available Flights” page. That said, the fare won't technically be redeemed until you click “Purchase” and review your reservation.
Here's what you should know about the Alaska Airlines Credit Card companion ticket:
- You must make the reservation on the Alaska Airlines website, and the companion ticket can only be used for Alaska Airlines flights. The reservation has to be for two people, booked in the same itinerary, and both people must be traveling together and ticketed simultaneously.
- Both the main flight and the companion flight must be purchased using your Alaska Airlines Credit Card, and you can't use a companion ticket with a fare bought with miles – though you can earn miles on both tickets.
- When you get the Alaska Airlines Credit Card and spend at least $2,000 in the first 90 days, you get a companion ticket as part of an introductory offer. Also called “Alaska's Famous Companion Fare,” this deal allows you to buy a round-trip coach ticket on Alaska Airlines and receive a second round-trip ticket for $121 ($99 base fare plus at least $22 in taxes and fees).
- You also get a companion ticket every year on your account anniversary. The annual fee is $75.
Keep in mind that the Alaska Airlines Credit Card companion fare ticket expires 12 months after being issued. So, make sure to redeem it before that.
