American Freedom Insurance Company

If you are someone who gets hit in the rear by one of their insured, you might as well assume they will say it is your fault. This company does not have any money or employees to process the number of claims against their insured people as they only insure those who do not know how to drive. I was sent a decision letter today placing the blame on me for being hit in the rear driving side by their insured and the decision letter was created less than one month after the accident. However, I only received the letter today, over 5 months after the letter was created. They are grossly negligent in making factual decisions and prompt notification of decisions. If it is not too late to get a lawyer in your accident against one of their insured, DO IT! I wish I would have gotten a lawyer from day one when they were calling my phone. I would at least be able to have them pay for the damage to my car. Additionally, wait for the police to come to write a report. I was told I had 3 days to make the report and went the next day because a couple of hours went by and I was still not assigned a police officer. I don't care if it takes 12 hours, wait or you will have issues like me.

If you are insured by this company and need government assistance, please file a complaint at the BBB and with the Illinois Department of Insurance at https://mc.insurance.illinois.gov/messagecenter.nsf. This will help get this business shut down!

I filed my collision claim on O1/21/22 as of 02/25/22 I have not received my check for 3,859.69. They said their offices in Mount Prospect are closed due to COVID. They said the check went out on 02/15/2022. The Insurance agency that uses them are Accurate Insurance. I am being scammed! Stay away from American Freedom!

BE CAREFUL, THIS INSURANCE COMPANY IS A BIG SCAM !! ONCE YOU GET INTO AN ACCIDENT,WHETHER YOUR FAULT OR NOT ,YOU WILL NEVER GET ANYTHING FROM THEM.THEY WILL MAKE UP ALL TYPES OF LIES TO PUSH YOU TO PAY FOR THE COST OF FIXING YOUR CAR AND THE OTHER PERSON'S CAR INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT. I'M SURPRISED THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS .CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY HORRIBLE .MY ADVICE TO YOU IS TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAM COMPANY ,I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAD TO GO THROUGH A LOT BECAUSE OF THIS COMPANY'S BAD FAITH ,AND I'M TALKING FROM AN EXPERIENCE.

The scam:
American Freedom Insurance Company advertises itself as the Company with a Long Term Perspective. That is exactly their modus operandi: they stall and cheat in the hope you will walk away without the money they owe you. As you can read from the reviews here, they are a very shady company. As others reported they will keep your claim under review because they claim that they could not talk to their client to confirm the story. After a period of being unable to talk to their client they will complete “their review” and reject the claim. Mind you, our car was rear-ended by their client and their inspector confirmed that the damage was at the back of our car. On the day of the crash their client agreed with us that it was her fault in front of the police officer who said it was not necessary to draw up a police report when both parties agree whose insurance will need to pay for the damage.
After their rejection of the claim I filed a complaint with the Illinois Department of Insurance (the main office of American Freedom is in Illinois). This is a governmental department whose mission it is to protect consumers by providing assistance and information, by efficiently regulating the insurance industry's market behavior and financial solvency. They initiated a formal investigation and contacted American Freedom Company. Suddenly the company called me, stated that their client finally spoke with them and they could pay the claim. But… their client had an insurance policy with a maximum of $5,000 per accident. So, after more than 2 months without the car, this bad excuse for an insurance company paid up for that capped amount.

Here is my advice:
1. When you get hit by someone with American Freedom Insurance: call the police for a police report on the spot, otherwise they will fail to get the story corroborated by their client and reject your claim.
2. When they open their box of tricks to avoid their responsibility: complain formally to the Illinois Department of Insurance, you can submit online. (https://www2.illinois.gov/agencies/DOI).
3. For any legal support call your local car accident lawyer, they provide free consultations and they only charge when they win your case and they recoup both the payment for the damage and their legal fees from the insurance and their (under)insured client. They also provide important medical advice on bodily injury.

I used to use American Freedom Insurance Company but I don't. I can't stress enough how bad some of this was and how good it was also. The customer service is amazing; customer service is really friendly and helpful. On the other hand though, the company is not so great. The application process took forever; I had to keep calling to see about my application. They didn't know anything about my application which I did submitted one to them. I had to redo the application process over which was horrible because my application wasn't accepted until two months later. If I had a problem with them and called them, they didn't take notes about previous things I have said to them and some of the employees had attitudes with me which I don't understand why. That was just horrible and that's why I left American Freedom Insurance Company. I don't recommended this Insurance Company at all.
