However, while Elephant offers affordable policy options, especially compared to other companies that specialize in high-risk car insurance, there are still other insurance companies with better prices and higher customer satisfaction. Studies done by several groups indicate that Elephant's prices are generally about average in the six states they serve— Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Texas, Indiana, and Tennessee.

Elephant Insurance writes auto insurance only, but they offer other types of insurance through partnering companies. These include Homesite for home insurance and life insurance, and Dairyland for motorcycle insurance. Elephant offers a bundling discount of up to 9% if you buy multiple policies through them.

The company's list of discounts for auto insurance is pretty basic. Some discounts are better than those offered by competitors, while others are average. For example, Elephant's multi-car discount can be up to 39% in some locations, and getting your quote online earns you 15% off your premium. Discounts for good students, safety features, responsible drivers, and paying your premium upfront are run-of-the-mill.

Elephant's high number of complaints is a cause for concern, however. Elephant roadside assistance costs $1 to $10 per month on average, depending on the type of car you drive and what state you live in. Unlike roadside assistance coverage from companies such as Allstate, Elephant requires that you have an auto insurance policy before buying roadside assistance. Elephant, however, does not require you to buy any other type of add-on insurance as a prerequisite for purchasing roadside assistance coverage, unlike companies such as Geico, which also require you to have collision or comprehensive coverage.

To cancel an Elephant Insurance policy, log in to your account online and use the chat feature or call Elephant customer service at 877-321-2095 to speak with an agent over the phone. The earliest an Elephant insurance cancellation would go into effect is midnight the day the request is made. Customers also have the option to cancel at a future date. Elephant Insurance does not charge a cancellation fee.

Elephant Insurance Cancellation Process:

1. Call 877-321-2095 or login to your account online to connect with an Elephant Insurance agent.
2. Provide your name, date of birth, address, and the date you wish the policy cancellation to take effect.
3. Wait for an email confirming your policy's cancellation. You should receive it shortly after your conversation with the agent.
4. Receive a refund for the prorated portion of your policy that will not be used.

As Elephant prorates its insurance premiums, it refunds any prepaid days of coverage that would go unused after cancellation. If you paid by credit card, you will receive your refund within 7-10 business days. If you paid by checking/ACH, the refund can take up to 20 days.

Remember, you don't have to cancel your policy if you are replacing a vehicle. Elephant can update your vehicle information or change the coverage types and limits on your policy. You may also be able to adjust your Elephant insurance policy if the vehicle will be used less for a specified period. However, if you are moving to a different state, you should first check with Elephant Insurance to see if you will have coverage, as Elephant does not offer nationwide coverage. Elephant SR-22 insurance is for drivers considered “high risk” by their state due to a DUI conviction, driving without a license or insurance, or reckless driving. “SR-22” is used interchangeably with “high risk” in the context of car insurance, but SR-22 is actually the name of a form high-risk drivers must file with the state proving they have car insurance.

Elephant Insurance will file the SR-22 documentation on your behalf but will charge a $75 filing fee. They will also likely raise your premium.
