My insurance went up 1200 dollars, after calling many times Meemic stated I didn't show proof of health insurance. I went in person. Brought my book of coverage, the agent made copies, still wouldn't accept. The agent and I phoned Maryland to speak to a representative on speaker phone. Maryland told the agent I was covered in any situation. You see, the problem is I am a Vietnam Era Veteran. I go to the Veterans Hospital for all my health needs. I have no other health coverage. This is a disgrace. I only make 1400 a month. Between the car payment and car insurance, I can't pay my rent, DTE, or food each month. For the past month. I phoned every insurance company in Michigan, not realizing AAA, PROGRESSIVE. ALL STATE, to name a few, own all the off name companies, also they all are connected and can see each of our past insurance logs. So, I have to pay this outrageous price or give up my car. If I keep the insurance I soon won't have a place to live. Who gave these insurance companies all this power over our lifes, why isn't the V.A. accepted.? MONEY?

They will double your insurance price with little to no warning and then tell you that you will have to wait around 2 weeks to get the $600 they took for 1 month of insurance which is absolutely ridiculous. Terrible company and business practices.

We've been loyal customers of Meemic for about 12 years and were in the lowest risk group. My wife bought a used (10 years old) pickup truck and our Agent explained that the almost $1,000 six month policy was the result of Meemic's new rating system. She also told us that my new lease SUV would be about $1,100 for six months compared with the current rate of about $800. So we switched to USAA and got the same coverage on the pickup truck for about $450 I have no idea what Meemic is doing but our daughter (a current teacher) can't afford Meemic either.

We have been Meemic Auto and Home insurance customers since 1980. That's 38 years of commitment to one insurance company that used to provide very good insurance coverage at a reasonable price. Last year our auto insurance doubled in price for 2 cars that are 18 and 17 years old. The policy was in the neighborhood of $1000 for 6 months. Being retired we could no longer afford their overpriced insurance. I called the Gordon Agency and was met with a condescending agent that said well people change their insurance all the time and do so year to year. I indicated that we were loyal customers for 38 years. No response and no well we are sorry to hear that. We just cancelled our policies and went with Progressive. Since AAA purchased them they have been the worst!!! Customer Service is TERRIBLE

We’re very sorry to be losing such a loyal customer. I can’t speak to rates here, but I am sorry about the experience you had with your agent, and I have forwarded your message to the team in charge. We strive for top customer service. We hope you’ll reconsider when your new policies are up for renewal.

I switched to Meemic from AAA (which turns out are both owned by the same company). I saved quite a bit when I first switched over and continued to do so over the years. I have NEVER filed an auto OR homeowners claim with the Randahl Agency in the 6+ years I've been with Meemic. A week ago I received my auto renewal. Two drivers, two cars, no tickets, incidents or accidents, payment always on time= increase. Received my homeowners renewal yesterday and floored it went up $268 for no apparent reason known to me after remaining steady for the past 5 years. I understand that policies increase due to claims, points, late payments, etc. But none of those apply to my situation and they are still raising my rates. On the plus side, the agent I deal with, Donna, is always very helpful and professional.

Thanks for the kind words about Donna; we’ll be sure to pass those along. We are committed to keeping our rates as low as possible, but sometimes we have to make adjustments that affect all Members to cover rising costs, especially medical costs in Michigan (and Personal Injury Protection rules) and increasing costs to repair homes and cars. We hope you’ve done a policy review with Donna to see if there are any changes you can make to your policy to reduce costs.

We have two homes and two autos insured with Meemic. So far we’ve not had to file a claim and we’re thankful. My complaint is due to their lack of customer service.
My spouse sent in our auto premium paid in full in a timely manner however, used the homeowners policy number. I’m sure this is not the first time this error has been made by someone. The next thing I know, we get a policy cancellation notice in the mail. When I called the agency, our agent claimed they knew nothing about this notice and left me to handle this. I was told that the company has a poor system and mistakes are easily made. When I called the home office which is something my agent should have done, I was initially told that my payment was not made. After explaining that it was made with a wrong policy number, the representative looked further after placing me on hold and returned asking if I got a check in the mail as our payment had been returned. How crazy is this? The rep canceled the check that we’d not received and applied our payment and reinstated our policy. The problem is I had to fix this not my agent! This wasn’t the end. A week later, I got another bill requesting and additional $5.00 premium. I then called the agents office to ask why as they stated our payment was short by $5.00. I didn’t think a lot about it and paid this amount. Several days later, found my bill and noticed we’d not made an error so I called the home office to complain. Guess what, they now owe us $5.00. Again, why do we have agents if we have to do all of their work? We hope not to have a claim!!!! And no follow up call from our agent!!!!

The first time I had Meemic, the rates rose considerably the 2nd year and I had not filed any claims. The second time Meemic terminated my home policy after a month due - probably due to the age of my house but it was never clearly stated. They terminated me and kept over 20% of my fees, and again, I had not filed any claims. I will never use them again and do not recommend them based on my experiences.

I'm sorry you had an unsatisfactory experience with us. That's certainly not our goal. We don't raise rates lightly, and there are a number of factors that go into rate increases that we have no control over. As for your home policy, I'm sorry for any confusion. Your agent should have explained the cancellation, and there should have been a written explanation with the notice that was mailed to you. If that did not happen, I apologize. If you'd like to learn more, please send your contact information to [email protected], and I can have someone reach out to you.

We’ve had Meemic for several years. We switched from AAA years ago and instantly saved hundreds of dollars a year. They also changed their policies a few months ago and lowered our rates again. Their agents are always very informative, helpful, and great at communicating and responding. Definitely recommend.
