If there was an option to give zero stars this place would be it!! I pay our the butt for full coverage insurance and when I actually need it they decide to end my policy. Yes in. 11 days late on payment by it they haven't tried to contact me at all! I lost my job due to Corona virus I'm a single mom of two kids and couldn't make my payment on time I then got into a mojor accident and totalled my car. Sheltor insurance says oh well you were later can't do anything for you. This heartless company is only out for your money. There website says they'll grant 31 dya to all policies but it is a lie . I don't recommend this place at all

Shelter Insurance is the absolute worst insurance company! What they have put my family through is by far the worst experience of our lives. Our claim was submitted over 30 days ago and we agave been displaced from our home and have not received our monthly living expense payments yet! They did not even offer to cover the hotel expenses for my family! I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone and would advise anyone that has them to leave immediately! This is just a short version of my experience. They sell policies that they clearly do not want to cover! Systemic racism at it’s finest!

Me and my husband chose to go through Shelter Insurance for our car Insurance. The company was kinda easy to get started with except they would not let me sign up online at the time. We had to go into the actual agency. Overall they are not a horrible company. Alot smaller than the big companies but I do like the one one connection with the agents. I am not constantly talking to different rep all the time. If I call my one agent I get that person only which is a nice as well.

I have been with Shelter Insurance for about 20 years with my car insurance. I have an excellent driving record, I filed one claim in the 20 years for 2,000. I bought a brand new Charger in 2011, the cost was 32,000. In Jan. 2013, someone pulled out in front of me and did over 10,000 dollars in damage to my front end, the car had 17,000 miles on it. That person used Shelter Insurance as well. They did fix my car, however my diminished value claim that I filed with Shelter was a joke. They offered me 1,300, knowing that my car had lost a value of over 5,000 due to the wreck. But anyone that has insurance knows that they are not in business to help you. But I feel that after 20 years of service I should have been treated with more respect for the type of car that I drive. After getting a lawyer to help with this issue, they paid them 500.00 for what, I am still not sure, and paid me 1500. for my value lost. Very disappointed in Shelter. It just goes to show you, no matter how long you are with a company, you are still just a bank roll to them, not a valued customer like they claim.

I’ve had Shelter for my auto insurance since I turned 16. My local agent does a great job of working for me to try and make sure I’m getting all of the discounts I’m entitled to. I’ve only ever had 1 claim for one of my vehicles and they made it almost painless. I didn’t like being forced to use their body shop for the repairs because it was inconvenient for me. Due to the small town I live in, I had to go far to get the estimate, drop it off, pick it up, etc. I understand their need to do this, but wish there was a better way. Recently, I’ve been considering changing to another company to get better rates, but I think the personal service I get is worth a little more money in premiums. If their rates increase though, it will become more attractive to switch.

I purchased a vacation home in Lake of the Ozarks. Knowing I would like a local insurance agent I began to search for one. On the main highway I saw a Shelter office sign in a cute little house. I pulled in and was greeted by the agent's wife. Very friendly. She introduced me to the agent who was equally friendly and I purchased a homeowners policy. I was so happy that I changed my car insurance at Shelter and received a discount. After 15 years it was time to sell my house and car. I cancelled both policies. Refund checks were sent for the balance of the year's premium.
Somehow I only cashed one check, and the other was either lost or never received. 5 years pass by and I receive a letter from Shelter that I never cashed a check for $280. Would I like a new one?? YES.

I obtained a surety bond from Shelter when I had to borrow against my home to start my own business. This allowed me to go through the process with a lot more peace of mind – if something were to fail or if a customer were to sue me for whatever reason, not only did insurance cover me but having this additional measure of security in this surety bond helped me to be absolutely positive I was guarded against anything bad happening to me or my home. The agent who assisted me actually met me at my business rather than asking me to drive to her office. The process of a surety was foreign to me at first but by the time we had finished meeting, I was not only totally confident that this was something I should do for myself and my business, but I was ready to sign up. The rates were affordable and the peace of mind they were able to offer me is priceless.

Shelter insurance has been my latest insurance company. I'm located here in Illinois, and Shelter has just recently started moving up here. Therefore, I am blessed with cheap rates, because Shelter wants to attract new customers in this area.
I would say that I had an average experience with this car insurance company. The sales representative was kind and helpful, and answered all of my questions. However, after I had bought the policy, one day his office closed without warning, leaving me without a representative. I needed a close representative, too - some horrible person had vandalized my car.
Anyhow, I had to end up calling the head Shelter office. They were very nice, and took care of my claim professionally, sending me a check for the damage. The only thing off-putting about the experience was the closure and abrupt lack of a close representative. Otherwise, I had an overall positive car insurance experience.

I just switched both my homeowners insurance and car insurance to Robbie. He really helped me save a lot of money! My homeowners policy was almost $400 less a year for the same coverage. I was adding another driver and got a quote from my existing insurance company. Robbie was able to place the insurance for much less than what they quoted me. It was a fast and easy process with no pressure, just helpful advice. I'd highly recommend Robbie to anyone! The only drawback is that the paperwork is not readily available in the digital format, most things are still handled by phone and fax.

Full coverage with Shelter Insurance covers damage caused by a blown-out tire. Please note that it will only pay for the damage to your vehicle, not the tire itself. If you are driving and you have a tire blowout, you should contact your insurer right away to determine whether or not it's covered. To file a claim, you can contact your agent by registering on the Shelter Insurance website or call 800-743-5837.
