WalletHub users give Credit One 3.3 out of 5 stars. Many users praise Credit One for offering credit cards to applicants with bad or fair credit. But there are a number of user complaints, too.
In addition to gripes about the cards' high interest rates and numerous fees, bad interactions with Credit One customer service representatives are commonly reported. Users describe instances of representatives being unable to resolve issues, along with slow response times, language barriers, and rude or unprofessional behavior.
How do I check my Credit One application status?
The easiest way you can check your Credit One application status is online, by visiting the application status page on Credit One's website and entering both your last name and Social Security Number. Otherwise, you can call the designated Application Information line at (800) 752-5493.
Credit One will find your credit card application in its records and tell you whether it is approved, denied, or still pending. It can take up to 21 days to receive your final Credit One application status: approved or denied.
What to Do if Your Credit One Application Gets Rejected
If your Credit One application gets rejected, you can ask for reconsideration by calling customer service at (888) 729-6274. If that doesn't work, your best bet is to apply for a secured card, like the Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards Secured Credit Card. Secured cards tend to have the highest approval odds and the lowest fees. You can also check out our editors' latest picks for the easiest credit cards to get approved for.
It's also important not to confuse Credit One with Capital One. If you've applied for a Capital One card, you can check your Capital One application status by calling customer service at any time.
How can I pay my Credit One credit card?
The easiest way to pay Credit One credit card bills is either online or via the mobile app. You can also make a Credit One credit card payment over the phone at (877) 825-3242, by mail, through Western Union or MoneyGram.
Here's how you can pay your Credit One credit card:
Simply log in to your Credit One account or your Credit One Bank mobile app and navigate to the payments section. You can make a payment with a debit card, ATM card, or bank account, depending on whether you make a standard payment or an express payment.
Standard Credit One credit card payments can only be made by bank transfer, and will reflect on your account balance within 7 days. Express Credit One credit card payments cost $4.95 each, and can be made with a debit card, ATM card, or bank account. They are processed faster than normal payments and will reflect on your available credit, at least partially, within a couple of days.
- Over the phone:
It may be possible to make a payment over the phone by calling (877) 825-3242. Enter your Credit One card number when it's requested, and follow the prompts to make a payment. Or, you can speak to a representative to help you through the payment process.
- By mail:
You can also send a check or money order, along with the payment coupon attached to your monthly statement, by mail to:
Credit One Bank
P.O. Box 60500
City of Industry, CA 91716-0500.
- Through Western Union/MoneyGram:
If you prefer to send a payment through MoneyGram or Western Union, you will need to provide your 15 or 16-digit Credit One card number, along with a special verification code.
For MoneyGram payments, the Credit One “receive code” is 1430. For Western Union payments, the “code city” is CREDITONEBANK and the “code state” is NV. Note that both Western Union and MoneyGram charge fees for sending payments.
Keep in mind that payments via mail take the longest time to post. So, in order to avoid being late, always send your payments at least 5-7 days before your due date.
How do I cancel a Credit One card?
The easiest way to cancel a Credit One card is by calling customer service at (877) 825-3242. Another way to cancel your card is to mail the request. Credit One does not offer an option to cancel online. More specifically, you can cancel your Credit One credit card:
- Over the phone: To cancel your card over the phone, call (877) 825-3242. When prompted, enter your card number. Once connected to a customer service representative, state that you want to cancel the card and close your account. The representative may counter with a “retention offer,” such as lower fees or interest rates, to keep you as a customer.
- Via mail: Another way to cancel your Credit One credit card is to mail the request. The address is:
Credit One Bank
P.O. Box 98873
Las Vegas, NV 89193-8873
Keep in mind that requests by mail will take longer to process.
What to do after you cancel a Credit One card:
When you cancel your Credit One card, you'll still have to pay at least the minimum amount due on any balance each month until it's paid in full. Your account won't be officially closed until you do. Any future transactions that you try to make after cancelling will be declined, but pending transactions may still process. You'll need to update the payment method for any recurring bills you were charging to the Credit One card, too.
Also, make sure to cash in any leftover rewards before canceling your Credit One card, as unredeemed rewards will expire once you close the account.
When to cancel a Credit One credit card:
A primary reason you'd want to cancel a Credit One card is that you simply no longer need it. Credit One cards are designed for people with bad-to-fair credit. They also come with high annual fees. As such, your credit standing may be to the point where you're ready to upgrade to a card with lower fees and more rewards. And because Credit One caters only to a specific group of customers, upgrading to another Credit One card is not really an option.
Keep in mind that when you cancel a Credit One card, your credit score could temporarily take a small hit, depending on the specifics of your credit history.
