1) Transaction history update delay
Except for physical teller-initiated transactions, the transaction history in online banking is delayed by several days. If I was hacked and someone cleared my accounts, I wouldn't know until 3 days later. Hello? Why???? I ran tests at Discover Bank and a credit union. Discover and the credit union were fine -- FHB was clearly delayed. Maybe they want low-balance accounts to bounce checks so they can charge fees. Who knows.
2) One-day hold on deposited checks, even if it was an FHB check for money drawn from their own accounts, deposited through a teller. Why? Why why??? Even tiny credit unions don't pull this kind of stunt! Check drawn from itself, physically deposited through their own physical human employee = immediate to same day deposit at any decent financial institution. Not FHB!
3) I apply for a loan and I'm not allowed to speak with the loan officer... I have to communicate through an account rep that has no idea about how loans work. Ask for a phone number and they refuse to give one. Why? Loan officers are high ranking officials, and customers are bottom feeders? How does that logic work?
4) Branch closes at 4PM and doesn't open at all on Saturdays.
Everything looks good on paper, but dig and you'll find sooo many dumb flaws. Try finding credit card disclosure statements on their website. You won't find them. Try finding APRs and APYs. You won't find them. Search other banks and credit unions -- you'll find theirs all transparently online. The more you learn about this bank, the more you realize how dumb it is to bank here. If you need to use them as a local bank, fine, use them as a local bank. But transfer your funds out to a more customer-focused institution and build relationships there. This place is way too clearly and blatantly working for itself, without regard for the customer. Only redeeming factor is that their staff are friendly. Not always knowledgeable or effective, but friendly.… show more
