I have had an account with First Merit Bank for a few years now and they're a pretty good bank. There's no crazy fees or anything so that's always good. I don't believe there is a minimum balance either. The customer service is good as well. I have a few other bank accounts but this one is pretty much average compared to the others. Not bad but not great either. It's a good bank though.
I've been with First merit for a few years now, and they have been alright except for one issue. I'm used to receiving free checks from banks but I believe they stopped doing that, so I'll probably be switching to another bank. If you don't mind paying for checks, First merit is pretty good.
I have been with First Merit for quite some time now. For the most part they are a decent bank but they have some issues. The prices of checks are quite expensive, they have a horrible policy for overdrafts, and generally just bad customer service overall. Any time I've had issues with them and had to deal with the customer service I've always left unsatisfied and frustrated. I am currently looking for another bank to switch to as I have had enough of them.
I have used First Merit for around 6 months now. I personally had no problems with it but my girlfriend recently had an unauthorized charge appear on her banking statement. We noticed it only after it had put her into overdraft. We called the bank up and even went down there and while they did reverse the unauthorized charge, they didn't reverse the overdraft fees that were charged. Even though she wasn't responsible for it! With horrible customer service like this we both decided to look else where for banks.
I have been with First Merit Bank for about a year now. They are a good bank and seem to be adding new features quite often. They recently added mobile banking options so that is pretty cool. There's no fees either with my account anyway, so that makes it great in my book. I have no complaints with them really.
I used to be a member with Citizensbank before they were bought out by First Merit. There haven't been too many problems. Customer service isn't the best, but not horrible or anything. No unnecessary hidden fees or charges. Just make sure you don't go over draft because their fee's are ridiculous. Other than that, they are a pretty good bank.
A while ago I was a member of another bank that I guess was bought out or changed over to what is now First Merit. I had a Firstmerit Bank Reality Checking account for some time, and mostly had no issues. Until one day my card was used to make purchases that I did not authorize. These purchases took my account into overdraft The fees kept piling on and I went to the bank to get it sorted out. Well, long story short, only SOME of the fees were reversed, I actually had to pay some of the fees because of the overdraft which they wouldn't reverse. After that, and the other unnecessary fees like the paper balance fee of $3.00. I decided to leave that bank and take my money elsewhere.
FirstMerit is a great bank if you live in North East Ohio. They have a lot of branches and a small bank atmosphere to them. They have great rates on their savings products and have always been very quick to resolve any issue that I may have. They offer any service you could need and have many services that small banks usually do not. The only small complain I have is that some of their fees have increased over the last several years.
I have been so happy with this bank. I have not been charged unexpected fees. They have always met or exceeded my expectations. I live in a moderate sized town and i usually use the ATM. I have gone in to the office maybe five times in two years yet they remember me. I was overseas and my debit card got blocked. Rather than making me make several international calls (to the fraud department) I called my bank and they made sure it got fixed for me and did all the leg work. Another time my debit card was hacked and i had fraudulent charges, i contacted my bank and they did the necessary paper work and even called me to follow up. I get the benefits of a large bank but the feel of a small one with FirstMerit. I love this bank.
I've had a FirstMerit Bank Reality Savings Account since 2009 and for the past five years I've been very pleased with FirstMerit's performance on this account. The fluctuation of interest rates in our U.S. economy has not been overly friendly to my savings account, however when looking at the performance of a savings account from how well the bank or financial institution performs, one must understand that the bank doesn't control the economy.
You must have a FirstMerit checking account to be eligible to open this specific Savings Account and while FirstMerit does not require a specific minimum balance for the Reality Savings Account, there is a minimum $50 deposit in order to open the account.
The monthly service charge of $10 is waived when customers have at least five debit or credit transactions per month with their FirstMerit checking account.
I choose to take advantage of FirstMerit's online banking, including their mobile phone app to manage all of my accounts as well as their paperless statements which enable me to help the environment.
Overall I highly recommend a FirstMerit savings account for anyone looking to do business with a really great bank!
