As POA and successor to a living trust, have been trying to close my mother's account for 6 weeks for Medicaid spend down. Finally gave up, cancelled everything in my day and drove 5 hours for 15 minutes of business. This company is functioning in the 1990's, not 2021 in/post-pandemic. Would not recommend

Genfed has given me a great experience and I would recommend them to anyone, they’ve helped me with my credit and how to use a credit card.
I closed my savings account over a month ago and have still not received my remaining balance from GenFed. I have called them multiple times about this and not only do they not appear to care, they are downright rude! I don't think wanting to know where and how hundreds of dollars have gone missing is an unfair question to ask. They refuse to take responsibility and tell me it's an impossibility to place a tracking number on mail. All they will do is blame the lost money on the mail and tell me to talk to USPS about it. There is no way the Post Office can know where mail is without, you guessed it, a tracking number!
I just signed up with GenFed about a month ago now and I have to say, this is much better than the big banks. The service I get when I go into the branch here in Ellet is just amazing! Even though I have only been in 4 times, they know me by name already and that's impressive to me!
Upon setting up my accounts the rep went over all the details and any "fees" that could occur and was very helpful. I had a slight issue signing into the website on the first day and one call to the office got it going for me. I'm very satisfied with my experience with them so far and may look at their loans here soon.
Ever since I first experienced the credit union difference, I have sworn that I would not go back to a bank. So when I settled down and bought a house two hours away from the nearest branch of my current credit union, I decided to switch to something local. I came to Genfed, as it works directly with and was recommended by my employer. When I opened an account, Genfed deposited the $25 minimum fee, and said it was mine to keep if I kept the account for one year. Thus far I was mildly happy with their service. They provided quick service, but were just the slightest bit rude until they got to know me. I opened a checking account, as well as a savings account. It wasn't until later I started to realize all of the hidden fees Genfed FCU members were subject to. The most frustrating example is the following: if a customer uses their debit card more than five times per month, Genfed charges a fee for every subsequent use after that. I asked about this and they said to just sign at the store like it is a credit card. A couple weeks later I found out that this applied to Genfed's own ATM at their facility as well. I fell in love with Credit Unions because of the level of service, and the lack of exorbitant hidden fees. Genfed on the other hand, has more fees than almost any bank I've ever dealt with. Thankfully, I kept my old accounts with my previous credit union. I have decided that accepting the inconvenience of being two hours from the nearest branch, is a better option than dealing with this.
