Happy State Bank

I've been a happy and loyal customer since 1995. Today, I'm searching for a new bank. Since Centennial has taken over this bank, I have had a continuous string of bad experiences. Its sad really. Happy State Bank was a great success story as they've grown over the years. I used to be proud of that bank. I've become friends over the years with many of the employees. All of those people have moved on since this merger to my knowledge. All new faces, discontinued services, ATM issues, app issues, can't get anyone on the phone, being charged ridiculous fees for services that used to be free etc. Time for me and my family to move on. Will start closing all 5 accounts, get my things from the safety deposit box and find a new home bank.

The one in Abilene tx closes at 5 not 6. Since it merged with centennial my Walmart pay doesn't work. The mobile deposit doesn't work either. I need to change banks.

I tried to get a loan for some land in February and i was sent a form to fill out and the interest rate was 6.89 so i checked with another bank and their rate was 5.5 so i went with the other bank . Two weeks ago i filled out their contact form i am going to put a well on the land they never did contact me so i got with best egg and in one day the loan is approved 5.32 , all this sounds normal except i have banked with this same bank for 49 years and my credit is excellent these people treat you a number not like a customer .Even though it is a pain to switch banks i will switch real soon very poor customer service and they treat you like they dont have a clue who you are .

Started out great, app would always go down in inconvenient times but nothing too bad. Now I've moved and emptying/closing accounts is the hardest thing in the world. Centennial ruined Happy. I was told TWICE by TWO DIFFERENT PEOLPE to call back once my accounts were empty so that I could close them... Now I wait probably an hour over four days on hold and when I finally get through to someone, I'm told I have to come in person?? I MOVED! I'm not close to a branch. If you want to tell my employer to let me off work for a day and pay for my gas, go ahead. You have my account/contact information.

I totally understand a merger makes things crazy, but it is clear there was ZERO planning on your part. If I was having an emergency with my cards and couldn't use them and was told there was 130+ people ahead of me on the call, I'd go crazy. AND having to hear the voice tell me why Centennial is the best bank on the face of the planet is enough to make you wanna throw my phone across the room.

I have been in business and banking for more than 40 years with various banks but I have never had an experience like I have had with Happy. Last year, during Covid, my business, oil and gas, stopped. While stretching savings I was ok paying some late charges. I was shocked when a payment that I had came due then in 30 days I expected to incur a late charge. On the 30th day past due Happy Bank debited my wife's account to pay the payment so that we would not incur any late fees, they said. The problem is that they did not tell us nor did they take it out of an account that we used to make the payment for the last 3 years.

The end result was that they overdrew my wife's account which resulted in multiple overdraft fees which were more than the late fee for the payment. When I realized my wife's account was overdrawn and incurring multiple overdraft fees I called the branch manager. He told me that the decision was made above him and he did not agree with it but his boss insisted. I understand his boss is over all of the branches in Ft. Worth.

I moved all of my accounts that have cash into another bank now but unfortunately as a result of their reporting, and my late payments my credit rating is not in a place where I can apply and move the loans. When they are paid off I will not be back.

25 plus year customer of Happy State. Needed urgent financial help with COVID19, and they helped me with funding via PPP in less than 72 hours. Personal service is the hallmark of this organization. Special thanks to Ken Maynard, Addision, Texas branch.

Happy State Bank has been amazing for my family and I. On one occasion I had a job interview to go to and had been very nervous. I was not completely ready for since I have not had a real job in about 10 years. I had to run to the bank first to make a deposit and they made me feel like a million dollars. The complimented my outfit, gave me encouragement and on the way out the door I just felt like the job was mine and the employees at Happy State Bank did that for me.
