Not for Travel, over active fraud protections. My wife and I traveled to India, we told them in advance of our travel dates. 1st week in, our cards shut off. We were stranded with out food for the 3 day holiday weekend. They said they fixed it. 2 days later, off again.
Now, I tested positive for Covid and couldn't get my flight home. Guess who woke up sick, hungry and to a shut off card again today.
I have been a member of HGFCU since 2014, and I am honest when I say, this place has gone downhill. They fail at innovation and don't know how to compete with 2022 world services.
COVID might kill me (I'm physically disabled, actually on medicare before I'm 40, and at high risk), or I might starve to death because I can't order food.
HGFCU is the worst bank ever. If I make it home, I will change banks before I do anything else.
WORST CREDIT UNION EVER!!! My father passed away unexpectedly so his finances were not buttoned up like they should have been. The day after he passed I called to cancel his debit card and whatever else. They told me I’d need to bring his death certificate in when I received it. The day after I received it I drove to the branch...that’s where I met Mindi. Zero condolence were given, she was more worried about how my dads car loan was going to get paid. I told her I didn’t know he had a loan against his car because I found his title. She said I couldn’t possibly have found the title because they have it. I asked my S/O if I was losing my mind because I swear I saw that title, he confirmed that yes, we do have it. She said again, you can’t possibly have it. I said well maybe he couldn’t find it when he came in to get the loan and filed for lost title and that is why there are now 2 titles. Finally a light went off in her head and she was open to listening to me for a brief second. Before that she was interrupting me, talking over me and sounding argumentative. The she quickly jumped to grilling about what am I going to do with the car now. “You can just turn it over to us and we can take care of selling it. He owns about 6200 and that is how much he has in his checking so we could just use that to pay it off now”. I was so overwhelmed...I just lost my daddy and I wasn’t able to make any decisions about this stuff. Plus I told her we haven’t found a will yet so I don’t even know who the personal representative is going to be or anything. (Still zero compassion or condolences were extended). So, I tell her I just want the accounts frozen if possible and I’ll keep in contact with her on what is going on with the estate. *Keep in mind this is early November and we are coming into the holiday chaos* About a week later I find an OLD will (1982) and I call Mindi and tell her my aunt is listed as the main PR and my mom (divorced in 1981) is the secondary if my aunt refuses. She asked that I just keep her in the loop. I explain to her that my dads car is just parked and no one is driving it. Luckily my aunt refused. So, we (mom and I) contacted multiple lawyers to assist us with probate. My brother is in the cannabis industry so there were firms that could not help us because they are “federally backed”. We didn’t know that would even be an issue and the appt with the 1st attorney was 2 weeks out so we didn’t get in until early December and she enlightened us that the cannabis industry might be an issue. Shortly after meeting with her she notified us that due to the cannabis involvement her firm was unable to help us. I relayed the delay to Mindi once again and she asked that I let her know when a PR is legally appointed and again mentioned that I could just turn the car into then. Well, it’s sentimental to me and her continuing to offer that feels shallow. My mother also called Mindi to explain and Mindi asked my mom “Why does Broek want to keep the car anyway?” Great customer service, huh? Our search continued and now we knew to make the cannabis involvement known before we set up a meeting as to not waste any more of anyone’s time. Finally we get an attorney that is willing to meet with us after the holidays. We met with her in January and had to go through the process of getting my aunt to file a legal declination to serve and appoint my mom as the PR. That finally happened in mid January and they the process began of my mom becoming the PR. Due to some paperwork issues this didn’t become official until March 1st due to holdups that were out of our control. On Jan 24th a certified letter was sent to my fathers home stating they now had Gina Johnnie (attorney) representing them. What?! I thought we weren’t going to need that sort of escalation since I was still communicating with Mindi as requested. The letter said that $2033.54 along with any interest and late fees is due by Feb 1st. They took the money out of his account to pay his Visa with them then applied the remainder to the balance. 2/12 Our attorney asked Ms Johnnie to provide us with a that we be provided a statement...basically a BILL to pay not just a demand letter from them. We felt like that isn’t too much to ask. We HAD to go back and forth because this is the BS reply from Ms Johnnie on 2/14 after requesting a statement:
“The payoff through February 20th is $3,021.93. That amount includes principal and interest in the amount of $2,339.26, together with attorney fees and costs in the amount of $682.67. This payoff is good through the 20th. If this goes past that time, please request a new payoff. I do not believe that there are any funds remaining in the Member account because they were applied entirely to the outstanding amount. If you need a statement showing zero, please let me know. “
Really, if you need?! That is what we requested. So her not providing the requested information will now result in MORE communication and more attorney fees. Complete BS!
2/20 Since I live out of town my mom (the PR) went to Heritage Grove 2/20 (she’s still not legally the PR and we have not been provided with any breakdown of funds) and they gladly accepted her check for $2033.54 but then said they aren’t giving up the title because attorney fees are still due?! You’re holding the title of a paid off car demanding attorney fees that should be coming out of the estate if anything. The fact that her attorney fees (most caused by her incompetence) were NEVER disclosed in the original letter from Ms Johnnie seems like it should be unfair to charge us for anyway. Mindi also told her “let me check all 3 accounts” my mom said “what is the 3rd account? We only thought there was loan and checking”. Mindi replies “oh it’s an IRA and Broek (me) is the beneficiary”. My mom asked why this had never been mentioned before. Mindi stated that they don’t offer up that information, you have to ask about it. WOW!!! Sketchy!
3/7 My mother again went to Heritage Grove. They informed her there is now 800+ owing on the Camry and they will be repossessing the vehicle in 10 days. How can this happen when they cashed my check for $2033.54 and that was what was owing on the CAR!!
3/9 I take another day off of work to go down to Salem. Mindi wouldn’t even show her face. Her boss, Matt I believe said Mindi was “at lunch” and he would assist us as he walked us around the opposite way so we didn’t walk by her desk. After updating him on this he said he was going to call Ms Johnnie, which he didn’t do in front of us...he left his desk and returned a few times. Then he told us he was going to look further into it and we could go to lunch and he would contact me about the issue ASAP. He called while we were at lunch and stated I would need to pay $577ish and they would give me the title. While I still think it was BS I was exhausted...we drove back to HG and I paid it and got the title.
Also, during this time my dad was still receiving a pension from Boise Cascade. Although I called them to inform them my father had passed, they still issued 2 more checks via direct deposit that Heritage Grove allowed to be deposited into my fathers account that I thought was frozen. Now since they accepted the deposits the monies ended up going to his debt with Heritage Grove and I get to pay that back too.
I just had more faith in humanity than this. Shame on you Gina Johnnie and Heritage Grove. I hope if you ever go through something like this the people you deal with treat you and your family a lot better than you treated us.
Losing a parent is difficult enough, dealing with people like them just makes it so much worse. My dad had nothing bad to say about Heritage Grove and I have nothing GOOD to say!
I will say this though... Thank you for kicking us when we are down! You’re truly one of a kind.
Then they send me another bill for ~$17...and Heritage Grove responds to my review and says...due to personal nature we will contact you privately. Good old Matt sends me a card (almost 7 months later) saying “Heritage Grove is and was sorry for your loss. We wish you nothing but the best going forward”...WOW!

We joined Oregon Employees Federal Credit Union a couple years ago because Chase started charging huge fees for having a business checking account. At first, we found OEFCU to be excellent on all fronts for a checking account. We received personal service from the woman who'd opened our account, including being able to email her with our questions and problems. Then she left and no one took her place on that front. About six months ago they warned that they would start charging a fee if we didn't keep at least $1,000 (!!) in our business checking account! Shades of Chase! We were NOT happy but were stuck with them because we were applying for a mortgage (which we did get but not without hassles, which is another review for another day!). About a month ago they installed a new computer system and it has caused nothing but hassles. Logging-in to view our accounts online, FIGHTING our way through a myriad of “ security“ questions and tests to even GET to see our accounts online, NO ONE would respond to our emails until second or even third requests were sent. So now we really don't like them anymore. It's so disappointing because they've gone from a personable little credit union to acting like every other big, anonymous bank.
My friend got me to switch to Oregon Employees Credit Union a while back, because I was beginning to have some problems with my previous one. These guys are pretty nice and helpful so far, and I can't really say anything bad about them at this time. I never had issues in regard to hidden fees or anything else. I was able to convince my mother to switch over to Oregon Employees as well, in order to make banking easier for her and for me to be able to transfer funds to her more easily. I eventually stopped banking with these guys, as I moved and there was no other location that I could find near me. However, I have nothing but good words for them and highly recommend them if you are near them.

I used the Oregon Employees Federal Credit Union for my banking for a few years. My experience with them was always pleasant and nice. I never had any issues with them regarding hidden fees or anything of the sort. They have a convenient drive-thru banking window in downtown Salem that I found useful as it was close by to my work. My father works for the State and that is how I was able to use their Credit Union. One time when I lost my debit card they were very helpful in cancelling and getting a new one to me very quickly, no issues at all. The only reason I stopped banking with them was because I moved and there was a closer credit union to where I live that is more convenient for me. But no issues with them, they're great.
