AETNA claims processing policy is to deny every claim. After 3 years of buying an individual policy from Aetna, they have never paid a claim. Deny and then send to next level and then appeals, all employees of AETNA with a single task: deny every claim. Customer service doesn't exist. Any other company has better ratings and I assume it's because they are a better company. Avoid AETNA.

Don’t even consider Aetna for a Medicare Provider. They take the money and give little back and drops your providers without notice or warning. Now you will pay for sure. RUN don’t look back at Aetna for a Medicare Provider. They are the WORST I’ve had.

Aetna is so bad you’ll acquire mental health issues - they contradict your own doctor at every turn and there is no one to talk to - just bots and call centers that NEVER solve your issues, which is exactly how they designed it to work. If your company switches from Cigna like our did PREPARE FOR PAIN. Aetna will not care about you - you are merely a corporate statistic to them not a human - and there is no accountability!

Worst insurance I've had, by far! I've had nothing but problems with Aetna! I've been trying to get Aetna to fix an error in their records for 4 straight business day. Over 4 business days I was provided 9 different phone numbers and each of those 9 phone numbers transferred me at least 3 times; therefore I was transferred a minimum of 27 times. The very first number they provided was completely disconnected. To top it off most of their offices close at 2pm if you live on the west coast because most of their phone numbers close at 5 EST. My issue has not yet been resolved. They denied my medication, and charged over 3.5 times more for prescriptions than all our other insurance providers, in the past. My skin cancer Dr. told me they pay less than medicaid, so I had to change doctors in the middle of being treated for melanoma skin cancer because Aetna won't pay my physician fair market price for treating skin cancer.. They are, by far, the worst medical insurance company I've ever had and I'm 58 years old. Most of my prescriptions and Dr. visits have been denied, so I've spent about 20 + hours on the phone in the last 4 months, trying to deal with each claim they've botched up in different ways. Avoid them if you can, its a nightmare to deal with them. However after spending 20 hours on the phone, I did get Aetna to pay most of the practitioner claims but it take an enormous amount of time for them to pay what they've agreed to pay in their contract. Consistently a nightmare to deal with Aetna. Unfortunately they are the largest pharmaceutical sales company in the U.S.

I would give them zero stars if I could. I signed up with Aetna through the Marketplace. It's been a nightmare with them. I go to the Doctors in their plan, yet Aetna denies all major tests. I will probably die or end up in the ER while waiting for CT scans to be approved. One of my Drs said no more Aetna clients after me because they are so difficult to deal with.

Worst insurance I’ve ever had. Extremely limited ‘In-Network’ Customer service is horrible. You can basically only communicate via their unintuitive messaging system where you are told what you want to hear, given a 30 day window to let the claim process only to end up back at square one talking to a new representative. No help whatsoever been trying to resolve an issue for 2 months now. Was told I could appeal by means of the archaic method of sending a letter or fax. It’s 2023 figure it out Aetna

This is a terrible insurance. Do not trust them with your health, they'll "screw" you over then ask you to pay for them "screwing" you over. Let's just talk about the fact that they simply DO NOT KNOW how to code something in their system. I've had to call hundreds of times (and I'm not exaggerating) because they charged me for an ER visit because "the doctor you went to was out of network". The people who work there simply do not understand the fact that if you go to the ER, you don't get to choose who your doctor is. That is why an ER visit is supposed to be COMPLETELY covered no matter what insurance you have.
Now let's talk about another issue: the fact that they are money hungry individuals. My mother has a rare condition that is a subset of a type of cancer. Peer reviewed studies have showed that doing radiation on the sites of lesion is supported for curative care (I'm in medical school, I actually understand medicine unlike the people who work for this insurance). Aetna, however, only cares what "Evicore" says - the company they outsource to tell them "nope it's too expensive". Basically, because they don't understand medicine, they have the audacity to say "It's close enough to this cancer, and that cancer doesn't show radiation is medically necessary".
Just choose a better insurance. Trust me - when medical issues arise, this is not a company you ever want to trust.

Aetna has provided me with the WORST customer service I've ever experienced with any company. The reps on the phone don't seem to have any ability to do anything beyond answer very basic questions, in very basic English as a second language. I have received numerous promises of call backs from supervisors and never received one. Have called upward of ten times to resolve a very serious reverse denial of coverage which is the fault of Aetna. I've had the Payflex administrator on three-way calls with them twice. The Payflex administrator repeatedly told them what the problem was and what they had to do and they don't fix it. I'm on the verge of contacting a health insurance attorney because I'm at the end of my rope. This will be the last time I ever have them as a carrier. I should be reimbursed for pain, time, and suffering at this point.

Aetna is morally corrupt. As a cancer patient, they have consistently not kept their promises (they've done nothing) to inform me of my specific benefits at different institutions for care. I have tried every avenue available to me (and I'm tenacious, so don't underestimate the number of calls and advocates I've enlisted to help me) but they are deliberately putting roadblocks in the way of me receiving accurate information so that I can make smart decisions about my care. Will they email you a list of providers in network? No. Will they give you the Usual and Customary reimbursement when you provide the CPT codes? No. Will they assign you a case advocate within a month if you are a cancer patient with an actively growing tumor and need help navigating what is in network? No. I can't express my profound disappointment and disgust. There should be legal penalties for this horrible, incompetent company.

After two months of trying to get through to somebody on the phone based in the United States, I am unable to get the proper number nor am I able to even get my identification card for insurance I’ve had for months. I know outsourcing is a thing now the customer service is no longer. Unfortunately I am forced to go with that now with my employer, or I would go through an American company that values customers .
It's a Medicare Supplement benefit identified as “Over the Counter (OTC) benefits”. Aetna's benefit is called OTC Health Solutions BUT I wouldn't recommend Aetna. If you need to order online Aetna only allows you to shop at their over priced CVS stores & delivery can take up to 14 days! You'll want to be sure & understand how each company handles their OTC benefits & what restriction apply to each plan. Good luck
You'll need to visit their website & select their Find A Doctor option then fill in the blank spaces to help it identify what you are looking for. For Aetna their website is
https://www.aetna.com/individuals-families.html then click Guests (unless you have a plan already) then select the applicable option. I don't like Aetna's Medicare website, I don't find it to be user friendly for the elderly, at all. Hope this helps
I've had experience with both Aetna and United Healthcare (UHC) and liked UHC better. After CVS bought Aetna we've noticed more problems with them. I hear good things about BCBS too but have not had any experience with their Medicare plans. Call an insurance agent and request a quote be mailed or e-mailed to you with a plan outlines for each insurance company then compare them. It doesn't cost you any more money to have an agent help you vs going direct to these insurance companies.
