I wanted to give Hippo no stars but this website here needs at least one star.... They are the absolutely the worst insurance company you can ever think about using. I tried to refi through AmeriSave and their site had an offer with this so-called insurance company for great rates and a free start up kit from SimpliSafe. The refi fell through and I emailed this Hippo to cancel my coverage out. It was less than a week that I signed up and cancelled as I never did cancel my insurance company I did have. I am trying to have Hippo cancel out my insuarnce coverage with them and they are being just pains in the butt trying to get this done. I sent them via an email the info they originally asked me to sent to them.... which I did again last night after they asked me for the same info again. Now I received an email from the same rep from Hippo asking me for documenttation that I have insurance and then they'd have to get it looked over and she said it would take about two days to get back an answer from them. No way!!!! I am done with them!!!! CANCEL PLEASE!!!!

Extremely poor communication, slow resolution. The first claim I filed - they were great. The second one was mishandled to the tune of SEVEN months from filing to settlement. The latest one only took them a month to NOT answer my emails for the claim to ultimately be denied. Don't be seduced by low rates or smooth sales reps. Avoid or learn the hard way.

Terrible customer service. I wish I would have read these comments before I signed up with this company. I can only imagine if I had a claim to submit. Just navigating through their online system is a nightmare. Don't dare click on something in error and try to change it back immediately the system will have everything messed up. Then you have to call one of there customer service reps to get it straight and they act like they don't understand what you are talking about and keep on the phone forever. They sent a bill to my mortgage company and I have automatic draft set up.

Really bad customer service. I got a quote and submitted all the documents and pictures asked for by the agent and never heard back from them. No response to emails or voice-mail. I called customer service multiple times and all they could do transfer me to voice-mail. Weeks of time wasted waiting.

I recently submitted a claim through Hippo for a dishwasher that had leaked onto my kitchen floor. I had water mitigation come out clean up the mess, also had them submit a repair estimate to hippo. To my surprise Hippo is NOT covering the water mitigation 100%. The company that I used to do the water mitigation (5 stars with 1K plus reviews) came down in their quote to make sure I don't pay out of pocket, but Hippo would not budge on the amount they claim the water mitigation should've cost. So now I need to come up with the difference on TOP of my deductible. Not only this but it's been almost TWO months since the filing of my original claim and they still have not given me a reasonable repair settlement. My original repair estimate given to them by a reputable company was for 19K but they came back and only said they would cover 5K. How absurd is this?! I would never recommend hippo to anyone, and I will also be switching home insurance companies as soon as this whole mess is done.

This must be the single worst insurance to have. Roughly 6 months ago my Condominium was flooded by the rental above mine. HIPPO is legally obligated to make me whole but is refusing basic contacts the total damages were above $90,000.00 dollars to fix. As you can imagine I don't have $90,000.00 sitting around. The desk adjusters won't take your phone calls and they will make your life as miserable as possibly to get you to settle for far less than you are owed.
When you need HIPPO the most they will fail you and they will make your life as horrible as possible. Do not use this insurance company. They will make your life miserable if you ever find yourself in the misfortune of having to make a claim.
In the case that you find yourself making a claim for any significant amount of money with HIPPO insurance, I would highly recommend having a lawyer on the phone calls and CC'd from the first contact. It will ultimately be much cheaper than having to deal with them evading your questions and using an array of stall tactics to delay payment as long as possible.

I switched from Farmers Insurance to Hippo with the assurance I was getting more coverage for my money. I recently had a kitchen sink overflow, file a claim and hire a mitigation company for the dry out. The mitigation plan was documented and approved by Hippo’s Desk adjuster. Hippo then sent a field adjuster out who wrote and submitted a report. A dollar amount was offered and sent to me although I submitted more than one estimate from restoration contractors and Lowe’s. Not only were these offers not entertained, the desk adjuster wants a third party restoration company Hippo sent out to “adjust their estimate” so that it’s in line” with Hippo’s field adjuster report. In the meantime, no contractor will restore my house for the amount of money Hippo has allocated. This is a complete nightmare. The desk adjuster now states the was no damage to my cabinets after the flood?? Why them was a mitigation claim reviewed, paid and demolition ok’d?

I feel scammed They make filing a claim impossible. My tank on my hot water heater buster Friday night. I had a plumber fix the water heater Saturday morning. There's water damage I've dried it up to the best It could be. Hippo said they would not allow me to even open a claim or speak to an adjuster untill Monday. Monday I get an adjuster he says an inspector will call me but I HAVE to pay mitigation. On Monday water mitigation comes out. Water restoration company says repairs have to be done costing over 10k and my home will unusable. My child is special needs so we have his therapies in home I can't afford 10k and to relocate within area of therpists service. I have a family of 5. By Wednesday I have still not heard from an inspector or my adjuster. When I call my adjuster he says pay for the repairs but that they still haven't confirmed coverage. Now it's been 8 days and hippo still hasn't helped me. I could just cry. I have not even seen an inspector it's been over a week I've paid multiple professional to come out and prevent the problem from caused more damage but hippo will not help. This was not worth the discounts.

Do not sign up with HIPPO. I opened a claim to replace my roof back in July 2022 and it still has not been closed. They under quoted the job so I can't find a contractor that would take what they pay out and we have been going back and forth for 6 months now with now resolution in sight. Horrible support as my house continues with a damaged roof.

Terrible company. I’ve only ever had one claim for home insurance so I really naively believed this company when they told me it wasn’t covered. We had a tile slip on our roof which then caused a leak in the ceiling and caused significant Bowing in our ceiling. Not to mention the damage on the floor below. Hippo told me it wasn’t covered because it was wear and tear from the house settling. 3 months later they said we reviewed your claim and damage was less than 1800 so we’re still not covering it. How is that possible to deny it then say oh maybe we would’ve covered it but your deductible was higher so it doesn’t matter. I changed companies.
