<p>I'm using Shelter Point for New York State Paid Family Medical Leave Act but I chose Disability Insurance because there were only two options and NYSFMLA. was not one of them. I just want to say that I am thankful and appreciate this service for times of emergencies (my mom lives in a different state from me and she had a stroke). I was able to leave my job (after notifying my employer) and stay with my mom in order to support and assist her in every way needed. I'm, currently, still on leave and nearing the end. My family and I were able to find and hire someone, that we trusted, to be my mom's caretaker. So with peace of mind, I can go back to my employment (safely protected due to NYSFMLA). My issue is that, the process of reviewing and sending payment takes entirely too long. I have not received payment or an end to the processing of paperwork from Shelter Point (and, so far, I've been with my mom for 2 months). They say that after receiving your paper, it takes up to 18 days to process. Well, on the 16th day, I received a letter in the mail stating that my paperwork is incomplete due to one missing information. The doctor did not answer the question: when will the patient no longer need assistance from others. Immediately, I took a new blank form, which was sent with the letter, to my mom's doctor and informed the receptionist of the problem. They were able to complete it (with the doctor) and fax it to Shelter Point the next day. I called Shelter Point the next day to make sure they received the newly completed form. I was told yes and the missing information is now received. I asked, how long will it take to hear from them. I was told that now that the form is complete it will take up to 18 days. I said, what? She said that they will try to process it sooner. I mean what can I say. I am at their mercy so I said, "okay, thank you." Unfortunately, I've been raising up the balance on my credit card for everything that I need and while purchasing necessary items for my mom. Daily, I'm patiently checking my Shelter Point account. I just might be back to work before I receive payment from them. NOT GOOD!?</p>

This is an update from 4-11-2021

I'm still with my mom in Miami and yesterday my husband told me that I received a check in the mail at home. I asked him to open it and tell me how much the check was for. He told me and I was well pleased because it covered back pay (from the first day on leave) to current. Thank God!!!

Not sure if this review had anything to do with it or if it was a coincidence but I'm grateful.
