N.W. Iowa Credit Union

I can honestly say, I am split on N.W. Iowa Credit Union. On one hand they served the purpose we needed to keep some money for a special occasion, on the other hand, I never really liked the experiences I had the few times I went. One of the biggest problems was that two of the attendants would flirt and wore clothing that was what I believed to be inappropriate. The attendants obviously turned me off of them, the bank specialists (account managers) were only average. They were o.k. but nowhere near good enough to make up for the regular attendants. We have an account with them because my husband and I have two different experiences with them and he likes to keep money in place rather than move it around. While I haven’t had the best experience, mainly because of young attendants, I can’t say it a bad union. We have friends who have better experiences and different attendants seem better. While the few times I contact them on the phone, I get good service, the problem is I can’t get over the past experiences.

Right after my wife and I got married we set up a small savings account for a 10th year anniversary gift to ourselves. We agreed we would set some of our money aside and keep it so we couldn't get at it easily. Living in Sioux Center, we knew if it were easily accessible we would be tempted to spend it on other things. We decided on a credit union. We decided on N.W. Iowa Credit Union in Le Mars so it would be harder for us to get at the money. We set it up so we couldn't do online transfers or ATM transactions. The service was good not great, the paperwork was somewhat technical, but we got some help from a teller. The nicest thing is that even though we were only in once a month to deposit money, by the third month they knew our name and could pull up our account very quickly. We have kept an account with them as we didn't use the entire 10th anniversary fund; we have converted it to a 20th anniversary fund. It's a good union and has nice personality.

The N.W. Iowa Credit Union is not the best. When I signed up with them they really came across as amateurs. I don’t know if it was someone new answering the phone or what but they didn’t even know what APR stood for. They gave me a pretty decent rate on my credit card. It was at least five years ago though, so I don’t know what it is like now. I will say that the person on the phone was very friendly even if they did not know what they were talking about. I would sign up with them again if I had the chance.
