More than 150 years ago, NYCB was established to meet the financial needs of those who lived and worked in New York City’s Queens County. Since then, NYCB has become part of the local landscape—not just in its original location, but in hundreds of communities throughout five states, with approximately 236 branches.

Stay Away!!! Incompetence like I have never experienced before. I am waiting over a month for them to reissue me a check and still have not received it. The left-hand does not know what the right hand is doing. I would rather keep my money under my mattress.

I was at the Ozone Park branch on Sat Oct. 29,2018 to have a document notarized. I was charged $2.00 fee. I have been a customer for over 25 years. I have had other documents notarized at banks that I am not a customer for no charge. It’s not the $2 but the lack of customer service .

They said I could close my savings online. Do not do that. They have been charging me 5 dollars for 3 months unwarranted because they took 5 dollars out for fees and it’s below 500. So to try and close an account I’ve paid 15 bucks of my hard earned money. It’s now 550 so I won’t be charged in July. Scumbags.
We had to pay a life insurance bill. My husband has a money market account. He had to have the routing number. He did have the actual account number but needed the routing number to pay the bill. He called the branch at 3300 Warren Cleveland, Ohio 44111. They would not give it to him even though he was willing to give his social security number, mother's maiden name, our current address and phone number. We were unable to pay that life insurance bill and the life insurance is due this week. We'll have to pay the bill by another way. I hope we can pay it before our life insurance policy has a lapse. If something were to happen to my husband I would be unable to collect the funds. This was a liquid account there shouldn't have been a problem to access it. We have been long time customers. We are closing out our savings accounts with them and going to a different bank.
This is a horrible organization, avoid them as a mortgage company. The employees seem to be very incompetent. I've been waiting a month for a refund via wire transfer. I've followed up five times, each time they state that they need an additional piece of information even after asking if they have everything they need. They also call you on the phone to discuss your account and ask you for personal identifying information. This is a big no no, you never give out personal information to a stranger on a random phone call.
This bank really is just universally bad. They forgot to mention that simply using my debit card incurs a $1.50 charge, so I racked up over $500 in hidden fees over a year and a half. There are very few in network ATMs, the bank is open at inconvenient hours and their website is straight from the 90s and rarely works. Each visit to the bank takes minimum 45 minutes. Oh this place is so miserable.
I just found out about this fee also. I've had an NYCB account for years and this fee only started appearing recently. I'm very frustrated that I am being nickeled and dimed this way.

I have been a customer of AmTrust Direct, owned by New York Community Bank, for a couple of years. It's an online-only service. Recently the entire NYCB website were redesigned and featured a number of changes that were only disclosed to me in mail a couple of weeks before the change. I found out through the letter that their external transfer service has been changed. The letter notified me that there is a $3.00 charge per outgoing transfer. Since I'm an online-only customer, it doesn't make sense to me to pay this fee, since I can't walk into a branch and withdraw in person. I called customer service and was told this charge would not apply to me since I'm their online-only customer even though the notification letter never made this distinction. After the website redesign was completed, I tried to process an external transfer and of course, I noticed that the website tells me there is a $3 charge for outgoing transfer. I wrote an email to them and no one responded for a week. In the mean time I have tried multiple times to process external transfer and each time was told of the $3 fee. Then the website went down. So I called customer service again and was told this is a website error, but she can't help me because their system is down so I need to call back. And she said that even though no one has responded to my email, that's it's normal for it to take longer than a week and I should just wait.
I decided to close my Money Market Account with them. Taking over a week to respond to customer email is unacceptable. Disclosure of the changes that took place were poor and not clear. There are easier banks to deal with out there.
I have been a New York Community Bank customer for over 7 year and during that time I have never encountered any problem with their service.
I especially like the fact that New York Community Bank has no monthly fees for checking account customers and there is no minimum balance required. This is especially significant since most of the larger commercial banks in New York City impose fees on their checking amounts or require customers to keep a high balance in their accounts at all times, or else face monthly checking account fees.
I never encountered any problems with electronic deposits made to my New York Community Bank checking account. I pay most of my bills online and I have not had any problems with online banking.
Going to a New York Community Bank branch is also a great experience. Line and wait times are always short even during lunch hour. Rarely have I waited more than three minutes to see a teller. Their tellers generally are cheerful and helpful, plus the branches are open on Saturday. Prior to banking with New York Community Bank, I was banking with a large commercial bank in New York City where I generally had to wait on line 30 minutes or more during lunch hour. Some of my friends have also told me that some of the large New York City commercial banks are even charging customers a fee just to see a branch teller.
I have been with New York Community bank for over 20 years. I have been with them since they were Columbia Federal Savings. They are a local bank, with a local flavor. I live on Long Island, and was severely affected by hurricane Sandy. I needed to get some checks endorsed and deposited so I could start on my repairs. The folks at New York Community Bank were not only cooperative, but very sympathetic to my plight. I went into the bank in trepidation, and by the time I was finished with the rep I was more at ease, and able to go ahead with some of my repairs. I was very pleased with my experience, and will continue to bank at New York Community.
This bank was originally called Richmond County Savings bank, in Staten Island, NY. I have been using it since I was old enough to open my own account. Back then, finding locations was difficult; now that it's expanded into the New York Community Bank, I am able to find these all over, even in the grocery store. I have never had a problem with this bank, and I can honestly say I trust them with my money. They gave me the option of using a student checking account, which means I don't get hit with monthly fees and I don't need to keep a certain amount in my account. Being a college student, this is a huge plus for me. I do have several other banks, but the New York Community Bank is the one I trust most for my checking account needs. I would highly recommend!
