SSFCU is actually pretty good when it comes to basic banking needs (deposits, balances, cash withdrawals, etc), but when it comes to other issues, it starts to get a bit ridiculous. I needed a stop payment removed from a check, and their solution: Come into the bank or FAX us a letter requesting the removal. My other banks let me call and take a verbal request. When I changed my name legally due to marriage, I was advised at the branch that my debit card would be automatically mailed to me, but it never arrived. I had to call and request a new one be sent, and on top of that they reset my PIN without my request. Oy!
The other reason why I am starting to be dissatisfied with SSFCU is their extremely conservative attitude towards loans. Like I stated, I have been a customer with them since I was 8 (I'm almost 30 now). Up until a few years ago, I was careful with my credit and actually did not have a credit history yet. I have high balances at SSFCU, but they advised me that they could not give me a car loan. End of story. I had more than enough in my accounts to cover the amount of the loan, but they wouldn't budge. No thanks.… show more
