Not sure where the leadership or HR department is over there, but this bank is a mess. They hire past criminals--people who forge checks and steal mail--but don't worry, they don't last long. I banked with SoA for 15 years before they started falling apart. The first issue was their complete inability to keep accounts separate. After a divorce they could not seem to keep our accounts separate, and to this day I can sign in and transfer money out of my ex'es account. Then we got a building loan with them---extremely predatory, they have no idea what they are doing, they don't keep track of anything, and to boot, they employ complete crazypeople. I have been screamed at and threatened--over an inspection that wasn't my responsibility to schedule. When we pointed this out, a GROWN MAN (his name is Mark Lew, he needs anger management classes STAT) drove to my HOME to scream at me in front of my kids, then threatened us to repossess our HOME if we said anything about it. When we refinanced under a REAL BANK I contacted HR about this situation, reported it to Credit Union leadership, and have heard NOTHING in return. Not even an apology. Oh, he ALSO accused us of insurance fraud, and illegally held onto an insurance payment of $20,000, not applying it to ANYTHING, for TWO YEARS. Meanwhile we had a burned pile of twisted scrap metal and glass in our yard with two small kids, because our BANK was paranoid that we...burned down a shed for the money? Our home is worth over $300,000, my partner is a high-level programmer and I am a longtime business owner and we have never once even been a DAY late on a payment....and we are out burning down sheds? There is something systematically wrong with this bank; one almost every level of service there is nothing but errors. They have made questionable moves as a business (three locations in a small town, two that are hardly open) and so it stands to reason that they just have lost their way in recent years., Alaska USA is a much more modern/knowledgeable bank with better service and accountability, I would never again apply for any kind of financing with Spirit of Alaska, especially their "building loan", as they are a straight scam.
