Their auto insurance rates are better than most; however, homeowner insurance is on par with other insurers. We called twice before purchasing the policy, and both reps were US based. I would highly recommend Stillwater at this point, but offer one warning. We had two accidents in the past 5 years, which neither was our fault but neither party had insurance. So we had to file uninsured motorist claims. After we were quoted a rate and moved forward to purchase the policy, the rate increased due to these two claims. They did show it was uninsured motorist, but I don’t understand why an accident that is not at all our fault should be held against us. They were both rear end accidents, and the one we were parked and not in motion. So be cautious with the rate they initially quote. Thank you and hope this can help you make a more informed decision.
Thank you for your feedback, Thomas. We understand your discouragement with the quoting process; unfortunately, statistics show that not-at-fault accidents can still cost insurers money and having any accident on your driving record makes you more likely to file a claim in the future, whether you were at fault or not. On average, a not-at-fault accident makes insurance costs go up by about 12% across the industry, compared to 45% for an at-fault accident. We know that it can be frustrating to feel charged for an accident that was not your fault, but the effects should only be temporary, as accidents usually only stay on your driving record for three years. As long as you continue to practice safe driving habits, your rates will go back down.

You won’t gain anything from this insurance provider. They sent out an “inspector” unannounced to us. I assume either the inspector just walked the perimeter because no attempt to knock on the door or call us was made. Fast forward a letter was sent to us from suckwater insurance services stating non renewal of our policy due to debris and aggressive dog breed. We have huskies in a 6 foot fenced in pen I am assuming the “inspector is referring to”. The debris referring to I can assume was some take off Parts from my Jeep that I have listed for sale and an exhaust from a car that I also have listed. LOL ? sorry I don’t have a garage or I would have put them inside to avoid your BS pride of ownership clause. Run from this shady company. Wish I read all the reviews earlier before getting this policy

Thanks for your feedback. As part of our normal underwriting and as a condition of your insurance policy, an inspection of the exterior of your property is required. A notification of inspection is included in your new business documents. The inspection is conducted by a third-party contractor and is an external inspection only. This is done to evaluate your home's eligibility for insurance and to verify that the questions asked during the application process were answered correctly. During the application process we ask if "the occupant of the dwelling owns or plans on owning one or more dogs." If the answer is yes, we then ask "is the dog(s) on this aggressive dog list (which includes Huskies.) If the answer is yes, the risk does not qualify for a Stillwater policy, and we would not have issued a policy. Because the inspection determined that an ineligible dog breed did in fact live at the property, your policy was cancelled. Most insurance companies exclude certain dog breeds from coverage. It is best to inform your agent to see if an optional umbrella policy will cover your dogs, or you will need to purchase canine liability insurance.

Stillwater Insurance is a SCAM! They will take your money and will not pay for coverage. I recently suffered significant damage as a result of water and sewage backup. Our business was interrupted for a week while we had to do proper cleanup, disinfect, removing/replacing all damaged parts, and dealing with food spoilage and contamination. Total loss around $30k. They only want to pay out $5k. They will take your money and not help you during a disaster. Please beware. I do not want you to go through the experience that I have gone through.

Thank you for your feedback. I have reviewed your claim to determine what happened. When you purchased your Business Owners Policy from Stillwater, you choose the $5,000 limit on the sewer/sump pump failure coverage. Because the damages are the result of a sewer backup, the maximum we are contractually allowed to pay on this claim is $5,000. We recommend you contact your insurance agent if you are interested in purchasing additional limits of coverage should you suffer another loss in the future.

Worst insurance company, I had leak from my roof into the bedroom caused by wind damage they are paying to repair but not to replace it, my roof contractor sent them a video explaining that the roof can't be repaired and they still refusing to replace it, when I asked for a different inspector to come out they sent me the same inspector again and they insisted that he's the only inspector available in my area, after I complained about it they sent an engineer to look a the roof who couldn't even know how to get to the roof he had his ladder upside down and my contractor had to help him get up there, these people are the worst I wish I can give them zero stars I am canceling my policy with them soon.

Good insurance ... until I got an adjuster for my claim (was good at first) ... then he made a big mistake by sending my check to the wrong address. which I CLEARLY had my renters insurance under a different address from the damaged property. but still sent it to an address I specifically told them I do not live in... very very careless mistake that could’ve been prevented. I even called the adjuster asking him and probing him about what address he sent it to and he just acted like he didn’t care .. even said “I don’t know, I don’t have your file up” when I asked what type of documents sent. didn’t ask for a claim number or anything just “I probably sent this or I probably sent that” poor communication. all to find out a week later he sent to the wrong address but all I get “just wait a few more days “. just disgusting. I’m in desperate need of that money for my newborn daughter and me but I guess the rep I had could care less about me and my problems SMH. I pray I never get him again.

If I could give this company zero stars I would. They have to be the most ridiculous company I have ever done business with. I spent well over 30K fixing my house. All new windows, new doors, New siding. I had dense pack Cellulose blow into all my exterior walls. Upgraded the electrical service a new roof is going on in the summer. I get a letter in the mail saying that they are canceling my homeowners' insurance because I have peeling paint and broken window. When I called to talk to them and notify them of all work I had done on the house and there is no broken window or peeling paint. She notified me that they were talking about my detached garage, not the main structure. She actually had the nerve to tell me that if I spent all that time and money fixing the main house why didn’t I fix the garage. I couldn’t believe it. I explained that the window was boarded up with exterior rated plywood And has been like that for 5 years. She told me I have to put the window back in or side over it. But I couldn’t just put any siding over it but it has to match the existing siding of the garage that was built 92 years ago I couldn’t just use the extra siding I have from my house. Who are they to tell me what my garage looks like? Then she said I have to repaint the garage because of the peeling paint. The kicker is they had to have trespassed on my property to see the detached garage. When I told Her about that she told me that I had given them permission to come on to my property. I Never gave such permission and according to her this so-called inspection was done back in May. I would have never allowed someone to Come on to my property in the middle of the Pandemic Shutdown. And why am I only hearing about it now 10 months later? Absolutely ridiculous demands from a ridiculous insurance company. So as you can imagine I am looking elsewhere and have found cheaper and better coverage with almost every other insurance company I have called. I have also canceled all other policies I have with them on so has my entire family and hopefully everyone else I tell about this scam of an insurance company. Stay away from these crooks. I can almost guarantee you can get better and cheaper insurance with almost any of their competitors. And it’s sad I have had car insurance with Geico for 20 years and will be leaving them for even associating with these crooks.

Thank you for the feedback. I have reviewed your policy to determine what happened. You purchased your policy with Stillwater through your GEICO agent on 4/28/20. During the purchase process, your agent is required to confirm that “I have advised the client there may be an inspection to verify the condition and pride of ownership of the dwelling, detached structure and premises to confirm the answers to our underwriting questions.” Your agent confirmed that she shared this with you. In addition, when we sent your New Business packet, an Inspection Notice was included informing you that we would be inspecting your property. The information that your GEICO agent shared with you in your recent phone conversation is correct.
All insurance companies conduct inspections on properties they are insuring to protect against liability issues, and to confirm general maintenance and safety. Maintaining pride of ownership of your property (internal and external) is a requirement of your insurance contract. The reasons that insurance companies conduct inspections is because they are responsible for paying for any claims that occur on property you have insured. Insurance companies need to protect their investment by asking that your property be properly maintained.
Our inspection occurred on 6/9/20 and was for the exterior of the home, garage, and premises. On 6/19/20 we sent a corrective action letter advising that the peeling paint on the main residence, and the boarded window and peeling paint on the garage would need to be fixed and we asked for you to reply to us by 8/03/20. Because we did not hear from you, we issued a non-renewal letter which was sent on 3/24/21. Your policy is in effect until 4/28/21. If you have corrected these issues and would like to renew your insurance policy with us, please submit photos showing the repairs have been made. Thank you.

A bunch of scam artists! My Stillwater field adjuster told me that the damage due to our house from Ice damming was covered but then another Stillwater rep (who apparently doesn’t trust their own field adjusters) hired a third party engineer to come to our house. Their engineer disregarded all of the evidence and our photographs of the iced gutters (and the weather the day of the claim) and we are now being told they won’t be covering our claim. Funny because Stillwater is telling me they have been so unresponsive because of all of the claims related to ice damming! I have appealed, contacted my state’s treasury department and plan to cancel my Stillwater policy and find a home owners insurance company who doesn’t scam their customers. I am also seeking legal representation. They should be ashamed!
