We have had our savings account with M & T for well over 7 years and have never had an issue. Anytime we go in to the bank, the tellers are always very helpful and great to work with. We like having dual account access at the atm for when we need to deposit money. When we opened the account the branch rep was very helpful in listening to our needs as well as suggesting a few other items for us to think about for future. The fees and other account intricacies we well explained to us by the rep and we found her very helpful.
I was with a different bank for a few years, and another bank before that. I have not been with M&T very long, but so far it is the best bank I've been to. The people there are so friendly every time I go in. When I signed up for the bank in the first place, the guy worked with me to help me pick the savings account that was right for me. There were a couple to choose from and I do not have enough money in my account regularly to stave off the high fees I would have had at other banks I looked into. At M&T, I was able to pick a savings account that worked best with my needs. I also have an easy time checking on the account with the mobile banking app.
I have been with M&T Bank for several years now, originally I was with Provident Bank but they were bought out by M&T Bank. Overall M&T Bank does a good job but some of their policies are meant to make as much money as they can from their customers. I have caught them several times holding back deposits so they can bounce checks and get their bounced check fee of $38. This practice has really upset me and I have had numerous chats with customer service about it. Every time I have complained customer service has done a good job in taking care of me as a customer but it seems that M&T bank is really only looking after their bottom line. I wrote a check to someone that went into a branch to cash it and they were told unless they had an account with M&T that they would have to pay a $5 fee to cash the check. That is is just ridiculous and M&T Bank really needs to own up to these types of customer service blunders and stop them.
This is a fantastic bank and I will tell you why it is. First of all the bank is right around the corner from me which is great. When I first walk in I am greeted by the friendly personnel working on that particular day. All the employees are very nice and friendly. Most of all they help me with anything I would need on that day. Second are the interest rates they give. They are not the best but are somewhat comparable to what is available around the area. If I need a loan they are very forthcoming with any types of fees I would need to pay unlike some of the other banks I have visited. Lastly I would just like to say they may not be the biggest bank out there so they may not be able to service everyone that comes in there, but if you are looking for a bank with friendly employees these people are what you should be looking for!
I was a member of the old Provident banking company before they got bought out by M&T a number of years back. Initially I was not happy finding out about this, however, over time I have grown to like it. The good thing was that all of the same staff was kept intact and all they really did was change the sign, so anytime I had an issue it was easy to deal with. They also let me change over and get one of the really cool Ravens ATM cards. Now, it wasn't all good though. At one point I was not warned about using the ATM regularly and my card actually shut itself down and I had to call and get it fixed so I could use it again. Minus that and sometimes not being able to get the money combination that I want from the bank at the time, all has went well. I recently bought some travelers checks and changed some money into Euros for a trip to Europe and the process was very easy and the rate given on the exchange was actually the same rate that I could have got online from other companies which is a rarity – usually you get a worse rate. I like this bank a lot and the branches are convenient. Just be sure to check in on how often you have to do things like use your ATM card so you don't run into my situation.
