Discover Savings Accounts

I opened this account few years ago and I am glad that I did, having my savings separate than my local bank made a huge difference as far as saving money. When you think about it most spending is impulse spending, and if you have your savings right next to your checking account it is very easy to spend it, having it separate makes it easier for my brain to process it is a saving account not a back up to my checking :) I never had to call Discover for service related issues, transactions go through fast very next day funds are available at my local bank if I ever decide to withdraw, very happy with the easy simple set up and having banking services at my finger tips, never needed a live customer service assistance, there has never been a issue that my finger tips can't take care of, to me that's the best customer service!

Very poor communications. I opened an account, did two ACH transfers with no problem. I then tried to deposit a cashier's check but they refused it saying it was not authorized. I don't know why it says on their website they are. Seems weird to have a bank that you can't deposit checks into. I contacted them through secured messaging but they can't give me the reason it isn't authorized. Looks like others are having similar communication issues. Not something you want from your bank. Plus you can get a little bit higher rate elsewhere.

DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT HERE. This place is a scam. I am having a nightmarish experience trying to receive an international wire transfer to my newly opened Discover account. Discover uses a terrible intermediary bank, Bank of NY Mellon, that they don't even have a phone number for! My incoming wire was returned for missing information (which was filled out exactly according to Discover's own instructions), and the funds are still missing 17 days after they were received. Discover could offer no trail of what happened to my funds, or even any proof that they were indeed returned. Trying to contact the intermediary bank has been a disaster. Every time you call Discover or send a secure message, someone completely random and clueless responds with a generic message that has nothing to do with my issue, so you have to explain your situation all over again 20 times. The wire transfer team employs some really rude people who will refuse to look at your supporting documents in case of any disputes. The website has many glitches, like not allowing one to schedule ACH transactions. Then the people on the phone will say it's a temporary issue due to a website upgrade, but then the next day the same issue happens all over again. Discover bank has now cost me a lot of money in wire return fees and 10+ hours on the phone and their inadequate website desperately trying to get my "returned" wire funds back for 17 days. Stay away!!!

I respect honesty and responsibility. When this bank makes a mistake, they will distort facts and cover it up. I will never use Discover again. They will distort facts and try to put the blame on a customer. I was a customer with them for over 30 years and now I regret every second of it

Awful service. Discover does not honor written nor verbal promises. Expect to experience delays, lack of professionalism, unethical behavior by representatives. One representative contradicts the next resulting in wasting of time and inability to promptly accomplish transactions. They cost us money by not performing as stated they would.Stay clear of this bank.

I tried to add an external account to make a transfer, and they locked me out of my account. Then, when I tried to call them to unlock my account, they said they were doing maintenance on their website and to call them back at 6 AM. Very frustrating. All I did was enter the information for my bank to make an external transfer, and on the next page, it said my account was locked.

Discover mailed me an offer to open an account and receive a $300 bonus. Upon meeting all the qualification, I get a message "After careful review of your account, we do not show you are targeted for this offer"

Accounts have been close.... who would bank with a company they can not trust??

Stay away from Discover Bank. I did their $100 bonus offer 35 days ago and took screen shots to show everything went thru. 30 days later no bonus. Wrote to their customer service folks and the reply was:

“I am sorry to say, it appears your account was disqualified from the promotion. However, I have reviewed your account and I cannot find a reason for that disqualification. That being said, I have escalated this matter to our Promotion Specialists to be investigated. Our Promotion Specialists will determine what happened and either credit your account or contact you to advise you of the reason that you did not qualify for the bonus. Please note that investigations of this type are be difficult and may take up to 8 weeks to be completed.”

I did everything I was supposed to do, they can’t tell me why they think they shouldn’t have to do what they said they would do, and they will take 8 weeks to figure it out.

Stay away. Far away.

I have had a savings account with Discover Bank for almost three years now. I haven't had any issues, or problems with them when it comes to my account. The only issue I had was trying to set up direct deposit. I sat on the phone with them for almost two hours talking to different representatives that had no clue what was going on. It got resolved though. The customer service is great, the rates are great. Overall, it is a great bank to bank with. I would not change to another bank. I also recommend this bank to everyone I know.
