I had a fraudulent charge on my account and went in and talked with Mary Ellen to resolve the situation. She was very cordial, friendly, and knowledgeable and was able to do what was necessary to replace the money in my account. My debit card was canceled, and she replaced it with a new one on the spot. I have two or three charges coming through on the old debit card automatically, and she helped me identify which ones I needed to change with the new debit card being used. I have confidence in the service I receive.

Friendly and efficient. Updated website with immediate or within 24-hour results. Convenient now that most transactions are done through the drive-up window.

I used HFCU to take out a small car loan on my first car when I graduated from college. Aside from a credit card I got when I turned 18, I had no credit history (My credit limit was very small, but the card was always paid in full every month and I had no negative information on my credit report). Other banks/lenders wanted to charge me 10%-25% in interest on my loan because of my lack of credit history (even though I had a good job and credit score, and I was only borrowing about 40% of the cost of the car). HFCU’s interest rate was less than 4%.

When COVID happened HFCU was quick to reach out and offer to reduce or postpone my monthly payments if I needed it. (Fortunately I was not in a position where I needed those services, but I still appreciated them going above and beyond to work with customers who may be struggling)

My only complaint is that their online banking tools are not the greatest. It was really difficult to transfer money from a non-HFCU account to pay my monthly bill and it can take over a week for transactions to post to my online account.

Overall, would absolutely use HFUC again for a loan due to their good rates and customer relations.

Worst bank ever. Getting garnished for a 10 yr old account and board or CEO will offer no reasonable settlment. I can no longer handle my monthly bills because they continue to garnish. This was my first bank account ever and it is my biggest regret!

I've had an account here for over 20 years; my parents set one up for me when I was born and I've kept it open. They're great for basic savings and checking, but I've since opened up an online account with a higher interest rate on savings and interest on my checking balances. I can't speak to the loan process, but I would assume it would be a smooth one, since customer service is so nice. Any issues I've ever had (which have come up when I need to use my debit card overseas) are solved quite quickly and everyone is always friendly about. They definitely remember your face here if you use the same branch frequently. If you need something basic, these guys are great, but if you're really looking to grow your money, you might need something more advanced.

This bank is only ok if you live really close to a branch or you are in one of the area highschools. Its supposed to be free for Henrico county residents but they were charging me an account fee of 10 a month and the money I thought I was saving slowly diminished over the course of a year. I put money in it once few months, and the third time I went to deposit money I had a negative balance. Turns out they were pulling from my savings to pay for the checking account fee and when that ran out they just started over drafting it, and I had never even used the checking account. I would Avoid unless this is your only option much better credit unions in the area.
