This company needs to be investigated. My car was totaled, and the other party's insurance offer would have almost paid off the car, while my gap insurance would have covered the rest. They sent me multiple emails telling me that I had to sign a document for them to negotiate a larger payment for my car because my car was worth more than they were stating. They completely ignored the insurance claims specialist who was trying to resolve the situation for two months, all the while the interest kept accumulating. I already had to purchase a new car and, as a single mother of two, I can't afford two car payments. They finally agreed on the original offer and are now refusing to post the payment to my account. I believe they are waiting until the interest reaches the full amount that the insurance company sent, as my gap insurance paid them first. If this impacts my credit, I will be taking legal action.

My car was stolen in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I had top-of-the-line insurance with full coverage, and I also had gap insurance. They stated I owed them one month. They put $6,800-something dollars. The car was paid off by the insurance company. Shame on you, Credit Acceptance. I've never felt so discouraged, and it's still on my credit report. I wish I had a good lawyer to sue you guys. I'm ashamed that you already received your money through the gap insurance. And my car insurance sent you the check which paid it in full. The car was stolen, yet you still haunt me with this on my credit report. Albina Gjinaj

If you want a finance company that only cares about getting your money and not about you as a customer, American Credit Acceptance (ACA) is for you.
I was always an on-time paying customer, but when I fell on hard times, ACA treated me as if I didn't matter. Instead of helping me get back on track, they made the process harder almost as if they wanted to ensure I stayed down so they could repossess my car.
After they repossessed my vehicle, I tried several times to speak with them for information on how to get it back. The representatives were rude, unhelpful, and dishonest, refusing to provide clear information until I made a payment.
Once I finally made the payment, ACA gave me the number for the auction where my car had been sent. The auction then told me I needed to contact the towing company that ACA had hired to recover my personal belongings. When I called ACA earlier after the repossession, the representative lied and said I could make the payment later to get my car back. Not once did anyone tell me that my personal items would be removed from my vehicle or that I had only 30 days to retrieve them.
It took ACA nine days to send the release to the auction, delaying the process even more. When I finally got to my car, all my personal belongings — including my license plates, registration, and garage door opener — had been trashed by the towing company.
When I called ACA again to explain what happened, no one cared or even tried to help. Instead, the representative had the audacity to ask if I wanted to make another payment.
Because of ACA's lack of transparency and customer care, I now have to replace all my personal items out of my own pocket. This company has no empathy, no accountability, and no interest in treating customers with respect.

This institution is suspicious. They take advantage of people with low credit scores, trap you in extremely high interest rates, and have terrible customer service. I was fortunate enough to refinance my house mortgage to pay off my car loan with them, but I have been fighting them for my GAP insurance refund for a month now. They have been giving me the runaround, claiming that they released the funds to a third-party company, but when I contacted this company, they had no information on any funds received from American Credit Acceptance. I asked to talk with a manager, and she was absolutely no help whatsoever.

Called to have my Autopay come out on the 1st of the month instead of the 9th. They argued with me, telling me I cannot change my Due Date. I never asked for a Due Date change. I just want to pay my monthly payment to match my payday. They also love charging a $5.95 fee if you want to pay online. I understand the fee if I called to pay over the phone. Also, I overpaid my account on the first payment, and they posted all of that money to interest.

Not even with them for 30 days and they are harassing us! We inquired about GAP; they said to contact the dealership. We contacted the dealership; they said to contact ACA. Finally, we got the correct answer and need to amend the contract. The dealership is almost 2 hours away. I was in a horrible accident and have physical therapy three times a week. We are trying to get to the dealership, but these people call every single day after being told multiple times which day we are going to the dealership. They only call my boyfriend's phone, but I'm about to call and let them know what's happening!

I've been with this company for a year now. I love it and have never had any issues at all. They just want their money like any other company. I call customer service, and the nice representatives explain to me what needs to be paid. Afterwards, it's my job to make those payments on time. They know it's hard, but at the same time, it's important to keep up with your payments. Bottom line: Have a nice day.

Be warned, don't make the mistake I made by doing business with this company!
I am so angry and disappointed after reviewing my credit report. I paid my car off within the number of months agreed upon. Instead of them posting "Paid," it's posted showing first "Not Available" and in that same posting "Paid/Charged Off."
I just got off the phone with their customer service, and the man repeatedly said that it's posted like that because when they gave me an offer to pay it off at a smaller amount, which included a lower interest charge, I said no, so it reported that I paid late.
I told him that makes no sense, and I have proof that the amount was auto-paid on the same date as always from my bank account, and it was not late.
He said it's because I didn't choose the payoff amount that was offered to me at that time.
I told him I paid all the payments I agreed to when I financed the car, and I should not be marked badly, looking as if I did not pay the payments as agreed.
His response was that it says it's paid off, and I told him but it reads in capital letters "Not Available" and then "Paid/Charged Off."
And again, he repeats what he said about me not choosing the option to pay off the car earlier.
I kept asking for the information that I can send proof of my bank account payment dates and to prove all the payments were made and on time, but he says because I didn't choose to take the pay in full option that was offered, is also why all the other payments were marked as late, and that's the only way the system works.
I asked again for the information to send my information to, and he rudely started to repeat himself as if I didn't hear him and wanted the information. When I told him I will never do business with them again, he hung up on me, and he didn't give me the information I needed.
I honestly want to cry because I went through helping pay for three separate funerals during the years of paying for this car, with a one-income household, and it was a lot of life struggles, but I paid it off.
As a good company, they should never mark someone's credit like this, especially because I didn't have the money to accept an earlier payoff and better offer.
Obviously, I would have, and it's not an offer if you're penalized for not choosing to accept it!

They are dishonest. Do not work with them. My car was totaled in March 2025 and I know I signed up for GAP insurance when I purchased my car from Carmax in September 2022. American Credit Acceptance, which incorrectly reported on my credit report that the car was repossessed, is mistaken. How can you repossess a vehicle that has been declared a total loss and for which I have paperwork? I am contacting Congress, the EEOC, and all three credit reporting bureaus to request an investigation into this company, as well as to have that false information removed from my credit reports. They are just unfair.

I wish I had seen these reviews before accepting a loan through this company. Unfortunately, I was in desperate need of a vehicle, and they were the only finance company available at the time. They do not care what type of issues you might be having financially. They sent a letter informing me of potential repossession after one month of a late payment. Then they said they do not need to contact me any further, and a repossession could happen at any time. I called them to let them know that I was having some medical issues which put me behind on some important payments, but they did not show any concern. They only wanted to know when I got paid and if they could set up automatic payments from my bank account every two weeks. What a terrible company.

To make it short, they operate as if it were a scam. Forget about paying extra when you send a monthly payment. They apply 100% of the money towards interest and nothing towards the principal. And people on the phone are uneducated and way undertrained. I paid off a five-year loan in 11 months and didn't even receive a thank you or anything.

While they helped make my payment lower, they never missed a payment from me, but it seems they want to. I had another vehicle before that was paid off and it was totally destroyed in an accident, but it got paid off. I'm about to have a baby girl and it surely would make it easier. Other than that, at least I am driving a car I really like and will continue to make my monthly payments. So, thank you for helping us get into a car that I had to invest over $4,000 in already, but I still make my payments on time and will continue to do so until it's paid off.

They keep sending me emails threatening to repossess my vehicle, even though I don't have a loan with them—I don't have any loans with anyone. I have called many times to try and alert them that they have a fraudulent loan using my email address, but they will not inform their fraud department (apparently, they don't even have one) and will not try to understand or take any action to correct their problem. They assure me that there is an active loan associated with my email address, but they won't take any action other than to continue sending me email notices.

While I have a good credit score, I have little history. With autopay enabled, if you pay in advance, they still charge you the full amount, which can lead to late fees with them and insufficient fund charges from your bank. They don't deduct your balance once you make a payment, and they don't deduct any additional fees when included in your payments. Their payment system is entirely designed to make you fail as your only interaction with them is to pay. They aren't helpful, and they don't refer you to the department responsible for payments or auditing when you ask. I've had them for one year, and I'm about to look into freeing myself from their terrible service. To anyone smart enough to do the research prior to accepting them and you've found yourself here, don't do it. That 24% interest rate makes you pay $40,000 on a $20,000 car plus whatever they can unfairly charge you.
P.S. There needs to be an option for zero stars.
