No institution- with the exception of the courts. - should be more neutral politically than the banks we entrust our money to. Heartland is a woke political actor that's made itself part of cancel culture. I would feel the same way if the bank's actions showed it was far right leaning and cut ties with a company like Ben and Jerry's. I want my money in a bank whose only priority is it's financial health. We will do our banking at a solid financial institution that is not part of the cultural revolution in the United States

I have been with this bank since I was in high school, decades ago. I had our Girl Scout account with them, a few non for profits, along with my personal and joint saving and checking accounts. Now I the past 4 years I am on the phone with them for something that is messed up my guess every 6 weeks. Example: I am a payee on an SSI account, this was set up that if there is no money in the account the person could not use it. Guess what, this special need person used it past it amounts. I had to go to the bank and ask why it happened and they even showed me the papers that I signed about the request thinking it was to allow it. They were wrong and just refunded me the late charges after a couple days. I was told I could get text messages if my account was close in single digits they would notify me. Sounded great but since they switched to an APP they don’t do that sorry if you thought you would have gotten a notification right away. Now I see today that my saving is being charged a fee since it is under the amount they picked. I didn’t know anything about it and it had been happening for over 6 months but since I don’t use it all that often I didn’t notice it. Once again calling but this time I was told to do it all online. Well that to name a few upsets I have had. Good luck and as I was old times in the banking world are changing and so will your accounts.

The bank I was doing business with was merged with Heartland Bank and Trust Company a few years ago, and the transition was nearly seamless. I tend to do most of my banking activity online rather than in person, and the customer service for online banking is just as excellent as it is when I go into any of their branch locations. Last year there was a data breach at a local business, and Heartland responded quickly in sending out replacement debit cards and informational letters to affected customers. I do wish they had locations in the Decatur area, but that is my one and only complaint about them.
