Peoples Bank

If I could give this company a zero rating I would. They are very unprofessional, rude, have ridiculous rates, as well as ridiculous customer service. Take your money and business elsewhere.

Opened a secured credit card account with them years ago. Charged it up, paid it down several times. High interest rate, but I had less than great credit then. For the last week I’ve been getting weird phone calls with no one there and then I got a notice in the mail that I have missed a payment. Called them up and was informed that yes, I had not paid my annual account membership fee back in November. I asked how they were charging me a fee when they had $2,500 of my money in their secured account. I don’t recall ever getting charged that amount before. They argued that now I not only owe the annual fee, I owe a late fee plus interest. The rep’s voice got less snarky when I told her to just cancel my card and return my money. No offer to waive any fee or interest. Just a resigned recitation that my account was now closed and that I’d receive my funds within ten days.

Total rip-off. Think I’m going to close my savings account there as well. I realize that my $10,000 or so is chicken feed to them, but if enough people get mad and leave, eventually they might take notice.

Ever since my bank got bought out by Peoples Bank it’s all been downhill ever since.. my paycheck was deposited into my bank account FOUR days later than it should have been. Called payroll at my workplace and they said the money was sent on their end, it was at fault of the bank.
Then when I called the customer service line after being on hold for 10 minutes, the guy was rude and had no explanation for why my paycheck was deposited late. Needless to say I’m switching banks.

My 83 year old father tried to open a checking account. He was on chexsystems so they said if he mailed in a money order payable to him they would open a second chance for him. He gave them all of what they requested and they sent back a letter saying notice for action "We choose not to do business with you" How unprofessional is that?? Now they have his personal information.

Don’t get a car loan from these people. They tell you after they’ve had vehicle repossessed if you come up with 1700.00 they would release vehicle and this is after being hospitalized due to Covid. Then came up with 1700.00, called to inform them then they had the audacity to tell me No, we need the whole 20,000 plus. This is also on top of 20/day storage fee Now there trying to charge me over the amount I even paid for it after having the loan for over a year. They are cruel and heartless.

I opened a passbook savings account years ago. I hoped it would help me save money not being so readily available. I hadn't made a deposit in a year or more so decided to make a deposit today. Unaware to me they had been charging me $10 a month for an inactive account. The bank had withdrawn over $100 in fees. Be careful! I would never do any of my banking with Peoples again!

DO NOT bank with Peoples bank. They assured me that they would work with me during this difficult time and within 6 months I've received a collections notice. The fastest one EVER. They are not a bank for the PEOPLE. DO NOT BANK WITH PEOPLES. GREEDY CORP!!!!!!!! AND GOODNESS ME!!!! AFTER READING ALL THE COMMENTS BELOW........YOU GUYS SUCK OVERALL!!!! I HATE YOU PEOPLES BANK. I HOPE TO SEE YOU FAIL

Beware - This bank will nickle and dime you for every fee imaginable.
I have evidence that they actually will stack your deposits & debits in attempts to cause overdraft fees.
They actually will change dates on your deposits, when calling their so called customer service call centers, you are treated like its a bother you even called or questioned their methods. Hopefully the regulatory will step in to stop these crooks, The manager of the Torrington Store was absolutely no help, and simply acted as a puppet claiming he could offer no assistance and could only send a message and wait for a reply.

BEWARE of "Peoples Bank". We opened accounts for our LLC, savings and personal use, only to have them refuse to give us a LLC Credit Card, though we have over $60,000 in cash and zero balances on the Credit Cards in use. NOW to close these accounts, they stick us with FEES! Over $120 in FEES to close accounts AFTER they refuse to serve us! We have to wait 6 months to get our funds back. DISGUSTING Bank in every way!

After kept waiting for 10 minutes while, let's call him white shirt guy, staring out the windows, while just sitting at the counter, Elisa decided to help me but not really. I only had two Govt. checks which I did not want one penny of but just wanted to deposit and leave. Elisa decided to become Sherlock Holmes and noticed that the word AND between my name and my wife's name was a RED Flag and now spent another 10 minutes calling one branch after another to gt an OK. She finally found Adam Mtros Brannch Mgr. believe it or not , from S. Setauket. I explained that I get these 2 checks every year and have been getting them for more than 10 years and always deposited them in the same way with signatures on both but both Adam and Elisa thought they had uncovered some sort of bank fraud or hold up and said I wold need to bring in my wife, with accompanying documentation of all sorts. I told her to just close all my acconts, direct deposits, credit cards, anything with the name of Peoples United on it. Elise said she was just following rules and did not want to lose her job. I told her that for the last 10 years, 10 different people at her bank probably did not want to lose their jobs either but all 10 just deposited the checks without launching a major investigation and my leaving and bringing back my wife so I said, look at it from my point of view, there are 10 employees of this bank who had no problem AND THEN THERE IS YOU. I told her that with 3 banks within less than 5 minutes this was a foolish move to close all the accounts but to do what she felt she needed to do. She closed all my accounts and I went LITERALLY across the the street to Capital One where the MANAGER KAREN STONE opened a checking and savings account, a business account, debit cards for both, Free Checking for both, deposited the two very same checks that caused Elisa and Adam so much consternation at peoples bank, were deposited and all this was done while Karen got me a cup of coffee just the way I like it while I relaxed and the paperwork was taken care of until they needed my signatures. What's in your wallet. I know that Peoples Bank won't be in mine and I am loving the professional attitude, top notch customer service, friendly service and FREE CHECKING AND FREE BUSINESS CHECKING TOO. As young professional new to banking, I was very excited to get started. My family and friends spoke of horror stories of banks making grand offers to protect their finances but in the end unclear disclosures resulted in loss of money. My initial experience with Peoples Bank went great! First off the customer service was amazing. They were able to take care of the majority of the complicated finance options and listen to what I needed. The application process was quick and efficient. In the long term, they have stayed true to their offers. I was even able to obtain personal loans for me new business. Problem resolution was great to. Thanks Peoples!

I have been with Peoples Bank now for over a year, and I have been very pleased. I was first drawn to People's Bank because of their second chance checking program. This program offers a guaranteed checking account to those who have had banking or credit problems in the past. Since I had been through a bankruptcy, this was a way to stop using prepaid debit cards and get charged all those fees and have a legitimate checking account. People's Bank also offers savings accounts, CDs, and money market accounts. The application process is quick and easy, and you usually have a decision in just a few days. The only time I ever had a problem (with a hold on a deposit), it was fixed in just a few minutes with a quick phone call to their friendly staff. Overall, I have been very happy with my experience with Peoples Bank and would recommend them.
