I have been a member of JCFCU ever since moving to Johnson City back in 2007. I was sick of big-bank policies and fees, and wanted to try something different, so I decided to go with JCFCU. They had the most branches around town, and were members of a big network of ATMs (PLUS), so I felt I'd have more than adequate access to my funds, no matter where I traveled.

Thankfully I was right! I also got the extra added bonus of friendly customer service from folks who actually seemed to give a hoot about whether or not I brought them my business. Such a change from the huge corporate banks that seem more geared toward sucking you dry, and not giving an inch!

I have since expanded into other credit unions and banks in the area for various reasons (for example, they couldn't do the loan on my condo), but I still have my JCFCU accounts (and I also have a safe deposit box with them) because they've never given me any reason to regret my choice.

My first non-big-bank checking account that I opened was through Johnson City Federal Credit Union. I am writing this review comparing them to the banks that I have worked with before that, and the banks and credit unions that I have worked with since. In terms of fair terms on my account, good customer service, no fees (or few fees that make sense), branch availability and accessibility, and interest rates, Johnson City Federal Credit Union was the best credit union that I have ever dealt with. My time holding a checking account with Johnson City was a pleasure because it was so easy. If I had one complaint, it was that their online interface for online banking was confusing to me right away. But as I got used to it, this was not a problem either. I stand behind this credit union and recommend them to others.
