Tompkins Community Bank

The woman front desk teller at the S Salina St Syracuse, NY on Wednesday 3/12/2025 has such poor personal skills I chose to bank with another company. I just moved to the area and came to this branch with two simple requests: open a checking account and exchange cash for quarters. Was rudely told I couldn’t get quarters without an account, lucky for her I was looking to open one, and was told I could only open an account if I “met all the requirements,” as if I wouldn’t. I may be a 5’3” woman that looks like I’m 18 but I just moved here for a job in architecture with goals of buying multiple properties, which will require large business loans. If I’m getting turned away for a roll of quarters and OPENING AN ACCOUNT that, checks notes, has no minimum account balance requirements and a monthly service fee of $10 or $0 if requirements are met, why would I chose to bank with you for the big things? Chose to bank with M&T two blocks further out of the way because they actually want customers and to do their job! :)

After years of amazing service, I must say I was unexpectedly dismissed over a dispute—really a misunderstanding—but I was never allowed to explain myself, nor asked to resolve the issue or given a warning. The communication was subpar. I was never called back when I was supposed to be. I was addressed rudely and talked to harshly on three occasions here. As a coin collector, this branch always had issues with me. Despite being respectful, patient, and well-mannered, you might find the opposite inside. It's a sad conclusion, but their choice. I felt targeted and deliberately singled out. In my opinion, go somewhere else unless you want to be belittled and disrespected. The manager has a power issue and shouldn't be in control if she can't handle it responsibly. They need to do better.

ompkins Trust Company is so incompetent! They don't know how to do the basic thins they need to do! Every time I go in for something, they have to call someone else and are never able to resolve what I came in for. Especially at East Hill branch...

Their mortgage people are also no longer any good. They don't do what they need to or offer you the things they should. Check out CFCU! They do no closing cost loans, first time home-buyer loans with only $500 down total, and have great loan officers! Missy Park is amazing at CFCU

My experience with Tompkins Trust has been excellent. They have great customer service which is always just a phone call away and the staff are friendly and helpful. The small community atmosphere is great and as an Ithaca College student it's awesome that there are ATMs available everywhere. I'm very glad to have an account with Tompkins. Setting up my account was quick and easy and though the page lists the bank as not having online banking they do and it's convenient and easy to use. I don't have a single regret about using this bank and I recommend it to anyone in the area.
