If you're reading this and considering FHB for an auto loan, don't. Online setup and auto draft was difficult to set up. There's limited functionality through their website. We had auto draft set up which paid off the loan a month early. About a month later, I still had not received any car documents or the refund for the excess that was paid to finish off the loan. Then I got a notice for another upcoming auto draft even though the loan was paid off and the excess funds still hadn't been refunded. Once the loan was paid, all access online was removed and I couldn't access the limited functionality that was there to begin with. I called FHB to find out what was going on, and it all seemed new to them. After talking to folks in different departments (and having to start over with a new call each time because they couldn't transfer the call), I was assured it would be sorted out. I was also told this last week when I called, so we'll see. Find a different bank for your auto loan.

I was diagnosed on July 31st, 2023, with stage four metastatic colon cancer, which has a life expectancy of maybe 12 months. As the head of the family, I wasn't able to work because I had to undergo surgery and chemotherapy. My son, who works with our family business, fell behind on his car payments. When we discovered that they were going to repossess his vehicle, we managed to get him caught up. It wasn't easy as I have been in and out of the hospital due to the disease. He was told that if he kept up with his payments, they would allow him to ship his vehicle to AZ where I am spending my last 3 to 6 months of life. He came to be a supportive son and help his father and family. After making eight on-time payments, he attempted to ship his car again. First Hawaiian Bank heartlessly stopped him and forced him to sell. Shame on First Hawaiian Bank for being so inflexible and unkind. Despite knowing the entire situation, they refused to allow him to ship his car so he could work. What goes around comes around, I guarantee it. I'll spend the next few months doing nothing but letting the world know about the callous nature of your company.

Short version: I despise this bank. I have a vehicle loan with them from the dealership. They won't give me an online account, so I can't pay online. I've tried calling for various reasons, including returning calls, and have never gotten through. Email? They don't answer. I have no way to pay my loan but by check. I had my bank send them monthly checks for me. Problem solved? Not at all. First Hawaiian was too negligent to open and process the checks and sent me to collections, damaging my credit score. I found out after my score dropped, went to the bank to inquire why, and they discovered months of checks they hadn't processed. "Sorry, we can't undo reporting you." Do not do business with this bank.

Have an auto loan that's on auto. Apparently last payment has to be in person after they send you a bill. Didn't get a bill, and only found out about it after my credit score went down. Apparently it accrues interest every day its late. Never do a car loan from FHB. Go with any other bank like Navy or a credit union.

They tend to be predatory lenders. I wouldn’t recommend this bank for auto loans. Stay with Navy Federal if you are eligible for sacs.

I like how Low the interest rate is at First Hawaiian Bank, even though I was hoping for a lower. But that was the lowest offer I could find. Other banks interest rate were higher. The only negative side so far to FHB, is always late to update the payment history on my car loan.

Military members, do not use FHB. They will deny shipping your car back to mainland during a PCS move. Also, their mobile app is useless. Everything needs to be done personally, like decades ago.

Rude customer service. They don't give clear loans. I got different information from every person I talked to. The collections guys will lie about your loan to bully you. Also, paying is obnoxious. You have to get special paperwork to even have the possibility to pay online. It took me MONTHS of poor explanations to get the possibility of paying online. They're lucky there's barely any competition. Otherwise, they actually have to get better customer service

They kept my account in derogatory status even though paid as agreed to after my loan matured. I closed my account because of it. .
