I took out a car loan with Wells Fargo and got a bill soon after. I tried setting up online payments per the bill’s instructions — didn't work. Five different people and 30 minutes later, I finally paid and was assured the account issue would be fixed. It wasn’t. A month later, after another 30 minutes and two clueless reps, I was told to visit a branch because I couldn't pay through the phone. I hung up, called back, and suddenly could pay over the phone. The billing department and the people who send the mail clearly don’t talk to each other. Customer service is atrocious. It's chaos from the CEO down to the woman who answers the calls — avoid at all costs.

I'm very unhappy about the way Wells Fargo treats its customers in the way they handle their payoffs on their car loans between two lending institutions. When it comes to refinancing your car, you mean to tell me wells fargo couldn't backdate a check to cover a $41.01 payment to release my title, and you stuck me with it when I was over three months ahead on my car payments? How petty of wells fargo. I will never in my life go back to wells fargo again for another car loan, and I will make sure I do not recommend anyone to wells fargo

This company doesn't even deserve one star, but I was forced to give a rating in order to submit this review.
Extremely disappointed with this company! My husband took out a car loan from Wells Fargo with a 3.99% interest rate, which we thought was fair. The term of the loan was originally for seven years. We have been wanting to pay extra on this loan to pay it off sooner. After speaking with customer service, we found out that Wells Fargo does not allow you to pay extra on a loan, and there is actually a $200 penalty (they refer to it as a service fee) if we wanted to pay it off today (which would be five years early). I have never heard of not being able to pay extra on a loan and not being given the option to pay it off early, and if we want to pay it off early, we are charged a fee. There is no advantage or benefit for the loan holder. The focus here is that Wells Fargo wants to get the full 3.99% interest for seven years. I will never do business with them again and highly advise anyone not to do business with them.

Did not define what type of loan they were subjecting an elderly grandmother to. It was supposed to be for a vehicle but turned into a personal loan, with only ONE PERCENT of the loan payment going towards the principal. It took one challenging conversation to ensure that we will never deal with Wells Fargo again. We promptly closed all our accounts and transferred to a local bank, which offered a much better principal-to-interest loan on the vehicle. I will never even consider banking with Wells Fargo again, and if you do, I would urge you to reconsider.

"I wouldn't recommend Wells Fargo even if they were the last financial institution on Earth. I make extra payments on a car loan every other month. They hold them for a week before applying them to the account. I had to call three times to find out where my payment was. I had proof it was made since it was completed online and was advised they couldn't seem to locate it. It was supposed to be processed and take 2-3 days - that was seven days ago, and in the meantime, $850 is missing. My attorney will see them in court next Tuesday. They don't return calls because they know they are in the wrong. Their paperwork had to be redone four times. The customer service is a joke, and their staff are rude. The one time I called, they did not verify anything. I gave them an account address, and they provided me with everything about the account without verifying who I was. What happened to the verification of name, PIN, etc.? Apparently, Wells Fargo doesn't do this. Their interest rate is laughable! I asked for printed statements to be sent - I'm still waiting, and it has been six months. I requested a payoff; that was a week ago. My credit union requested it on Monday, the 22nd of January - still waiting, and it's the 26th. If you have a choice - do not use Wells Fargo for anything!

Beware of sneaky practices involving interest rates on financing. I got a rate of 6%. 1st statement I noticed out of a $400 monthly payment, $125 of it was interest. NOT 6%!! Turns out Wells Fargo charges interest daily. That’s 6% charged, on full balance, every day!!! Seems criminal to me. I feel Carshop has a responsibility to inform customers about that. Carshop should use a more reputable financial organization.

After losing my job and never missing a payment for years, I called in this morning asking for a 2 month deferment. I was told that because I’m not making enough money NOW to make my car payments, I couldn’t defer payments.
This makes absolutely no sense. I’m applying to jobs every day, have never missed a payment, and intend to be employed in 2 months. I cannot believe that this is how you treat loyal customers going through hardship.
Rather than being helped, everyone that I spoke to was condescending and yelled at me. What is wrong with your company, that this is how you treat someone who has already paid 18,000$ and never, ever missed a payment before?
I just spent 45 minutes being talked down to by your customer service reps. I cannot believe that you denied me a 2-month deferment after years of never missing a payment. If I had a job that would cover my car payment NOW I wouldn’t NEED THE DEFERMENT.
I was told by the first woman I spoke to that if I paid this months car payment in full I’d be eligible to defer future payments for 2 months so I could get a new job and afford them. The second person was super condescending and literally told me that because I couldn’t afford car payments TODAY because I lost my job (financial hardship) I wouldn’t Qualify to defer payments for 2 months. So because I’m actually going through financial hardship I don’t qualify for financial hardship assistance. I was led to make a payment with false information, talked down to, and rejected in my first and solitary time of need.
What is the purpose of a “deferment” or “financial hardship” option if I can’t use it when actually going through financial hardship?

Horrible customer service. They have a broken phone tree so when customers need service, they have no way to get through to a person. Extremely rude, disrespectful and unhelpful. They have had multiple federal violations for fraud and should be run out of business. Do not work with them.

I don't usually write reviews, but after a few months of being with wells fargo because of my auto loan, I'm super unimpressed. I tried setting up autopay twice, both times they've called me saying it's not set up (which I don't understand how, when the website gave confirmation that it was being processed), they don't apologize or offer any information on why they just charge a late fee and say that i can't set it up until after the fee is paid. They didn't offer help for setting it up. The people I talked to on customer service seem miserable (maybe because their company sucks), which I don't blame them for because customer service for large companies and businesses has turned into over-polite droney auto responses.

Worst financial institution we've ever had to deal with when making payments online. We financed a car and jewelry card through Wells Fargo. For 6 months we have had to make all payments by calling in. 4 times we've tried to verify banking online and when deposits are made, there is no place on the site to verify even though they insist it exists. Rest assured, it does not when we log in. When we work during normal hours, it is near impossible to get someone on the phone after hours. We intend to refinance to a credit union in the coming week.
