EDITOR'S OVERVIEWThe Platinum Card® from American Express and Centurion® Card from American Express are both exclusive cards from American Express, but they are designed for people in different income brackets. In fact, Amex Centurion (also known as the “Black Card”) isn’t even an option for most people, as it requires an invitation.
Key Things to Know About Amex Platinum vs. Centurion:
- Amex Platinum is expensive, but far less so than the Centurion card, and anyone can apply for it. It’s a lucrative option for frequent travelers and offers many of the same perks as the Centurion card, though not the flashiest ones.
- Amex Centurion is an option only if you are invited by American Express. This requires a large annual income and a high amount of spending on other Amex cards. This card is incredibly expensive, too, but it may come with high-level travel perks like elite hotel statuses and a personal concierge.
