As others have noted, the customer service is terrible. I started the morning with a request to close an account (one of multiple that I have with them). I was told to call the customer service number - after waiting 40 minutes (while listening to a recording advising me to go to the website), someone answered and immediately hung up. I called again, endured the same wait, and this time when the call was answered, the representative said, "Let me transfer your call," and sent me to the back of the waiting line. After I finally got through, the customer service person could not do what I was asking. If credit unions are supposed to be the friendly alternative to large, impersonal banks, all I can say is that Allegacy can't hold a candle to my local TD Bank.

Customer service and the online help line are less than a one rating. I had a cd and the rate was good, and it was easy to sign up for. However, getting to a 'real person", and getting my matured cd back, a long with the $5 membership was yet another story. Do not waste your time with this credit union, because you will be all day on the phone trying to get to a "REAL PERSON".

Used to enjoy banking with Allegacy, but honestly, something changed over the last few years, and I am now eager to switch banks entirely. Amongst other issues with our personal banking, we have been in the process of procuring a fairly simple loan and the people in charge have been mishandling it on a weekly basis. Three weeks in, and they are just now getting things together to send to the underwriters, three weeks to collect the most basic information. Deeply disappointed by missed opportunities due to this casual approach to lending money.

Had the card for a year in good standing, only offered unsecured with 1500, raised from 500 secured, but wanted a bunch of documents, tax returns, bank statements etc, declined the upgrade and looking for a different card for North Carolina. I have visa or mastercard from all 50 states and a 770 score, quite sure I will find something better.

Great place to bank with, been with them about 2 years now. They take the time to help you with any questions and all the employees are friendly and knowledgeable. Their interest rates are very competitive, especially with their credit cards.

You cannot pay months in advance. As most banks will allow you to pay in advance a few months, Allegacy does not state this when making a payment on their website. When I called in and spoke with a woman, her continuous response was Allegacy does not allow this, it is in the contract, and that the good news is, by paying more, I'd pay off my car sooner. *Well, NAH, of course, I am attempting to pay off early, that's why I'm paying in advance. And, can any remember every single detail in the contract? A reminder when making a payment would be a nice courtesy. Really sucks, so beware if you plan to pay in advance.

This is the worst bank I have ever encountered in my life. The customer service and employees are extremely unprofessional and ignorant (lack of knowledge), they have no locations outside of one region of NC, and their online line services are extremely inefficient. I would never refer a person to this financial institution. Oh, and also, their hours of operation are terrible. This financial institution is in dire need of a business upgrade, all around. They operate as if they're 30 years behind the current time. IF I COULD, I WOULD GIVE THEM A NEGATIVE RATING.

We were first introduced to Allegacy by a car dealer in the Winstom Salem area. We needed some financing, and they said they had an excellent choice to offer, a membership with Allegacy. We said ok, since we had never had a membership in a credit union, thinking it could come handy one day. Everything went pretty much normal with our car loan. Interest was not that bad. And besides a couple of checks lost from my Online Bill pay service (according to them), and having to run to a sister credit union branch to make payments personally, it went pretty much smooth. We finished paying off the vehicle. Time came when we decided to build a house, and to save money we used our credit cards promotional balances. We knew it was risky, but we just didn’t have the extra $30K to hire a builder for our project. We tried to use Allegacy for a construction loan. They said no, since one of the requirements was to use a licensed general contractor. Ok. We understood that. After initiating the project, we thought of using them for a debt consolidation loan, since we were getting close the end of the promotional balances on our cards. They said no. Too much debt. And honestly, we knew it was a long shot. Our original goal was once the home was finished, refinance with cash out, so we go back and pay the credit cards used. But this time we realized how poor customer service Allegacy has to offer. First person who dealt with the application was nice, in the Davidson, NC branch. After 3 days she said she was going to take a leave and the application was going to passed to somebody else. That person rarely communicated. A couple of emails that was it. A month later we received a letter from Allegacy saying we were denied. We figure, well. maybe since they didn’t see a big deal of probability to get approved they didn’t care that much. After we finished our home we applied for the a refinance loan, though their website, as we were told by a representative over the phone. The system assigned our application to a loan officer, Jennifer C. We felt like literally we had to chase her down to get answers about our application, after days of awaiting a response. At that point to had enough of feeling like we were pulling a tooth from this financial institution, we decided to loom for other options. Some said they could not help us, but their customer service was extremely good. Like Quicken loans for example. and finally, we found one that was able to work our application with success, Fairway Independent Mortgage. After this experience, we could say that a membership with Allegacy Credit Union is worthless. Their customer service, besides the reps that tried to get you use them, is close to zero. None. Never before have we been given such a terrible customer service by a financial institution.

Does a bank need to automatically get you a ATM card when you open a saving account? My bank fail to do so I was wondering if they are required to do. This is just a question to think about if they close up.

I contacted the customer service center regarding my car loan payment and due to the lockdown in WA state the shared branching locations in my area were closed or only open during certain days of the week. I asked them if they would waive the late fee this month due to the stay at home order in place here in WA and the sparse hours that the shared branches were open and they wouldn’t waive the late fee. However, one rep told me that they could waive the fee to pay over the phone but that’s the best they could do. Shortly after I spoke to another rep and he stated that they wouldn’t allow a waiver for either. Mind you, I over pay my bill every month and I am NEVER late. With the COVID-19 stay at home order in place here in WA and being a military active duty member and first responder, how disappointing!

Worse than your average bank! Allegacy smiles at your face while stabbing you in the back. Terrible, terrible customer service. It is all about the fees with this 'bank' anymore. Why do they (credit unions) still get tax breaks?

I have been a member for allegacy credit union for 30 plus years Until the last 5 years i have been extremely pleased. However, the management/board of this institution has clearly changed. I just made a call to dispute a charge that was not refunded on my acct. (debit fees that are usually refunded) After waiting on hold for 10 mins ( they are understaffed) the agent started to count the debit drafts one by one. I had 11 debits, only 10 is necessary for fees to be reimbursed! I do not have time for this-in the past there was respect for the client, I do not see this anymore! As an out of state member I rely on their free atm policy. I am at a disadvantage because I do not live in the Winston Salem area I don't have access to AFCU atm machines! Time to break ties and join a local more responsible credit union
