I pay my rent at this institution because my landlord has his account there. I use cash, so when I try to deposit cash into my landlord's account, I have to give them my Social Security number. This is nonsense, and they want you to give it to them at the drive-up windows, but only the one on 5th East and 5th South.

Bjameshigbee, thank you for sharing your concern. We understand that being asked for your Social Security number can feel uncomfortable however this requirement is based on federal regulations. For added privacy, we recommend visiting a branch lobby instead of using the drive-up. If you'd like to talk more about this, please reach out to us at [email protected].

I've banked with America First for over 20 years, and this past year dealing with them on an auto loan has been beyond a joke. Between their inability to adjust an auto loan rate correctly (they miscalculated the new rate/payment!) to now force-placing insurance on my loan despite numerous attempts at sending them proof of insurance, I am finished and will be moving all of my accounts as soon as possible. They are doing fraudulent/shady business and I no longer trust them. Do yourself a favor and don't bother banking with this institution.

Customer service is at best - poor. I went to the Millcreek branch to have a "Medallion Signature Guarantee." They indicated that they couldn't provide a "Medallion Signature Guarantee" and sent me (after waiting for the first half-hour with no one in front of me in the queue) to the South Salt Lake branch. I waited there for an hour. Over 6 people came and left after I arrived. They were all helped and left. Finally, someone started to help me; however, it wasn't the person who could provide the "Medallion Signature Guarantee." At the same time, they said that this was an incomplete document and I couldn't receive a "Medallion Signature Guarantee." What a waste of time! America First has poor customer service (I could rate it as ZERO).

My boyfriend banks with America First, and since we've been together, his account has been randomly frozen many times, too many to count. In the past few weeks alone, it has happened twice. He does not get notified when they do this; he finds out after he attempts to make a purchase. He has to wait two days because when they froze it, it was after 5 p.m. on a Saturday, and banks are closed on Sunday, so he has not had access to his money. This is a very frustrating situation that keeps occurring. Please fix this.
P.S. It wasn't over large transactions or any questionable activities. His account was frozen one time simply for getting gas.

Banking officials like to exert their so-called control over their customers by holding onto checks until they deem fit, even past the normal two-day holding time. Their staff will lie to your face and get away with it every time. The main branch in Ogden is the latest offender and left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I would never bank with them if they were the last bank on Earth. Try sticking to your policies and think about your customers more than you currently do. Put yourself in their place.

I've lost all faith in this bank. I contacted them immediately after noticing a suspicious charge on my account, and I was treated very rudely.
I canceled my card and was waiting for my dispute to be resolved, but to my surprise, it was denied. They tried to tell me that because they have my name and address, I must have made the charge. However, isn't that what fraud is about? They have my information on the card, including my address, and they can use it fraudulently. That's why we have fraud protection.
I even contacted the merchant and filed a police report, but I have still heard nothing. They claimed they sent me a denial letter in the mail, which I never received. I believe they just don't want to cover any cases of fraud. Don't bank here. Unless you can afford to pay for your own fraudulent charges. You would be better off putting your money in a safe.

Horrible customer service. I moved out of state and tried to close my account prior to leaving. Two weeks later, I still had not received my funds (over $1500). I called customer service and reported the issue. They said they would reissue the check and mail it (they did not use tracking services with USPS). Weeks later, I called and reported that I had still not received my funds. The representative suggested "waiting a couple more days to see if it would arrive". The check never arrived. I called several times but struggled to get through the automated system to speak to a live person. I sat on hold for literally hours (cumulative). When I finally got a live person, they reported that they had no record of my account with them. Their "best guess" was that the funds were sent to the state as "unclaimed property". I checked with both the NCUA, who reported that accounts have to be dormant for 3-5 years before assets are transferred, as well as the State of Utah, which has no record of receiving funds in my name. I called American First again and they basically said it was my loss, and to get over it - that last phone call...I sat on hold for over 90 minutes just to get that message.

America First Credit Union is the worst credit union for banking. I've been with them for over 15 years, and they treat me terribly. I get charged an overdraft fee because of an unauthorized charge that is not my fault, and they deny my request to credit back my account, which is very frustrating. Perhaps all credit unions, and especially banks, are like this. It seems you can't win, whether it's your fault or not.

Worst banking experience I've ever had. I used America First Credit Union for my auto loan. A representative from another department called to offer balance transfers and lower interest on personal loan payoffs, ensuring me they would take care of everything. I agreed to do both. They assured me they didn't need any additional information and they would obtain the account numbers from my credit since they have it from my auto purchase. It's now two months later, and the transfers were not completed. My credit score has tanked. I've missed two days of work and spent over 8 hours on conference calls with AFCU and other banking institutions combing through failed ACH transactions, wire transfer information, and opening checking and savings accounts I don't want to solve this issue. I'd rather pay the higher interest and skip all this hassle.

I have been a member for over 20 years, and the service has significantly declined in the past five years at least. They seem unwilling to help their members, often rushing to end phone calls. What has changed? I used to love this credit union and have referred many individuals and businesses to them. However, I can no longer recommend them, as it seems they do not prioritize the financial well-being of their members. They have ceased to strive for excellent service and, over the years, have lost numerous members.

This is one of the worst banking experiences I have ever encountered, and I am glad I did not leave Wells Fargo for them. They are not helpful and it feels more like discrimination. I am recently divorced and have gone back to using my maiden name. I received a U.S. Treasury check and wanted to deposit it in my account, as well as obtain a direct deposit form to give to my employer. After providing documentation of a court order that displays my maiden name and calling to ensure there would be no issues upon my arrival, I was still asked to provide my divorce papers, the court order, and proof of service paperwork.
Everything matched between my Treasury check and my ID. Suddenly, I was informed of a 9-day hold. I wondered why such a long hold was necessary, as banks can verify government checks through a system, and no refund check should be held for more than a couple of days. Then, I was told to go sit and wait. After 10-20 minutes, I was told nothing but untruths and my refund was not deposited.
The first unfounded claim was that there was a problem with my driver's license, which was not true; my ID has been valid since 2019. The second was that I needed to provide additional proof of my refund because of the high amount, which is something I have never heard of before.
Initially, the teller, who was wonderful and polite, was about to complete the transaction, but then she was stopped. A man claimed there was an issue with my ID and refund check, which I believe was a dishonest excuse. I felt that I was discriminated against because I am of mixed race and earn a good income.
I wish I had gone straight to Wells Fargo instead of attempting to switch to a credit union. After leaving in frustration, I called the AFCU hotline and encountered the same discriminatory attitude from the woman on the phone who had previously supported the man at the branch.
Nevertheless, I proceeded to Wells Fargo, where they accepted my ID and divorce papers, verified my check, and told me my funds would be available on the next business day. This reinforced my belief that Wells Fargo provides better banking services, as they have the appropriate systems for verification and do not discriminate.
From this incident, I have learned my lesson and will avoid this bank at all costs. The claims about needing to go to the DMV for missing security features, requiring additional proof of my refund, and the 9-day hold on a federal government check were all falsehoods. The insinuation that they did not want my business because I am half Asian and half Black and a hard worker has made this the worst experience ever. I have decided never to consider a small credit union again and believe that thorough vetting of their staff is necessary, as discrimination can lead to a lawsuit.

Had gotten a loan for $1,500, paid it off without issues. When I asked for a $4,000 loan so I could consolidate some debt and purchase an a vehicle, they denied me. I tried again with my wife as a co-signer, who has been a customer for over 10 years; they still said no. Considering closing our accounts, finding a way to switch our current auto loan, and being done with them.
