I've been with this bank for over 32 years. The Kailua Kona branch is terrible. It took three employees over 20 minutes to process a $200 check in Canadian funds. The employees are clueless, most with a glazed-over look as though they're in a cult. This financial institution raised the fee to deposit a $200 CAD check from $2.50 to $100; this is outrageous! I attempted to reach Joyce Perez, the bank manager, via phone several times to verify if this was an error and never received a call back; I ended up having to reach out to another branch manager to verify that the fee was indeed $100.
I'm in the process of changing banks and had an important question, so I tried calling customer service at 1:30 yesterday. The wait time was 55 minutes, so I left a call-back number on their automated system; no one returned my call. I just tried again today, and the wait time is 32 minutes, which is unacceptable! This bank does not value their customers' time; I can't wait to close my account!

Left hand and right hand don't know what they're doing. The branch approves a check release, while the back office puts my account under review to close it. It has been a horrible experience I would never want someone to go through. No returned calls from the branch.

Horrible service! I had a bad check given to me by a third party. This bank has locked ALL of my funds, well in excess of this check amount, AND they are returning my checks, even though there is plenty of money available. This is causing me thousands of dollars in damages, and they offer no remedy to fix it, in violation of banking law. These guys think they are above it all... beware!

Hi, this person Tita went above and beyond in helping me find out if the bank had their notary person in that day. She worked for the customer service phone helpline. I just feel she should be recognized because she did the right thing. Thank you!

Horrible customer service; representatives yell at customers over the phone. Moreover, the bank lacks professionalism, efficiency, and incentives for long-time customers to remain loyal.

I know some nice people that work there for a long time but a smile doesn’t change the fact that it’s a shady business. Customer service on the phone has been the worst and they wouldn’t help me cancel autopays, when chime does! I see why the reviews are lackluster when they care more about taking money from you than helping.

I have never felt so intimidated or put down in my life to the day I went to American Savings and asked them to release a check from a hard loan lender, which they had already been holding for 2 days and it's the holidays and I needed the money to care for a injured dog. They refuse to release it. I know it doesn't take that long for a check I deposit in my account to get to the bank that the check is from and back they just want to put people down who have prior low account balances or even have balance to check. In other words the same to my face I'm not trustworthy therefore my dog suffered and I had no Christmas for my grandson thank you American Savings. They held the second portion of check for eight days. They held the first portion for 4 days and the second portion for 8 days and the check wasn't even that big. Just cuz my bank account doesn't look like it I'm worth probably more than any one of those employees there. So American Savings you are better than anybody else don't look down upon people

The Mobil check deposit feature never works on the APP. If this is a feature you depend on for your business or personal accounts, I would not recommend banking with American savings bank.

Just for safe deposit box...I choose this bank. It's located central between my home and where my business is located. Checking account is free so that's great. However, what am I do with another checking account...maybe small deposits here and there. Fun money. Unknowingly I have chosen a bank which made me feel inadequate/ignorant regards ATM machine usage. I had to be shown how to deposit cash into a machine by using a money counter machine as a demonstration. All the while the teller held a steady eye contact and ensured me that it's that easy to use an ATM machine... No other banks on the island has comes close to this kind of service. Not central pacific bank where I visited often, not Navy Federal where I also visited very often and definitely not two other banks where I do business with. Then... For the first time since money counter machine been created, my cash deposit was short by couple dollars. It was too late to recount. I was speechless of how...why....what? It's too late. I had a lot to do and I was running late. My own fault. I walked out feeling a bit frustrated. This bank has become the least convenient to do my small transactions and it s just weird.

Don't let the fancy marketing fool you - this bank is 20 years behind in features and technology, and tacks fees on wherever they can. I had to open an account in Hawaii because they don't have national banks there, and unknowingly chose the worst bank on the island. While all of the banks in Hawaii are a bit behind the mainland in terms of technology and features, I found ASB to be substantially worse than First Hawaiian Bank.

I opened up an account with them when I moved to Hawaii from California 2 years ago and so far so good. Their customer service is great, it was painless opening up an account and I got 1 free check book too! The only flaw is that their website is very plain, and not all that user friendly. And their iPhone app doesn't work all the time. Not as technologically advanced as I'm used to, but overall its an okay bank.

I've had an account with American Savings Bank ever since I can remember. They are especially convenient since nearly all of their branches are open 7 days a week. Currently I'm trying to work with them to update my home equity line of credit (HELOC) to take advantage of one of their specials. I believe it's 0.99% APR for one year.
Whenever I go into any American Savings Bank I'm greeted by one of their many professional staff and am usually in and out rather quickly, unlike some local banks. The waits are usually under 5 minutes and the transactions are usually very smooth with the staff being able to assist me in what I usually need. Their rates are usually pretty comparable to other local banks but the convenience is what gets me in their door.
