My job was affected by Hurricane Helene. I called all the companies that I had an account with; everyone understood my situation except Carolina Telco. When I called them and asked about a deferment, they told me that they allow one deferment and two for the lifetime of the loan. Yes, I had a deferment previously, but I explained that I was affected by the storm. The representative informed me that they didn't have anything in place for such situations. She promised to forward my information to management. I waited five days for a callback, but never received one. I then started communicating with Stephanie, who was very polite and tried to assist me, but the decision was not in her hands—it was up to upper management. I finally received a callback on Friday at 4:50 PM, after about a week plus waiting on and they said they could grant the deferment, but I would have to pay $40. I don’t understand why I need to pay $40 when I’ve been affected by the storm—no other company asked questions; they just provided help. Additionally, they requested my job information, income, and home mortgage payment details, among other things. I asked the lady why all this information was necessary considering the recent disaster in the Carolinas. It felt as though they were treating me as if I was trying to refinance my vehicle. All I wanted was a deferment to tide me over until I could recover financially. Currently, I have no money, which is very distressing. I’ve had this vehicle since 2021, when I purchased it. Six months later, they informed me of fraudulent activity related to a banker who had been fired—the banker who approved my loan. They discontinued my credit card, which had a $10,000 limit, and had never been late with payments, and they requested that I return the vehicle. After consulting with my attorney, we realized there was nothing we could do to reach a mutual understanding. After four or five months, I called them back and they agreed to refinance, but they kept all of the payments on my account. This company's practices are deplorable; they do not intend to help anyone but themselves. It’s very sad, especially after the major storm that hit certain areas in North Carolina. I would never recommend that anyone do business with this company. Had I looked at the reviews before dealing with this bank, I wouldn't be in this predicament. Please read the reviews.

If you bank with these individuals, you'd better hope you don't survive a natural disaster and have a credit card payment due. They'll send you straight to collections despite you having no power, phone, or any other way to pay the bill. Their overdraft fees are also predatory, and they delay processing deposits because they prefer to clock out and wait until Monday. Terrible bank and people, and not any better than a large institution in terms of services offered.

I called a rep and ask to waive a fee which is once a year thing they do. I called 12/2022, they waived it on 1/2023. When I tried calling again in August 2023 they said I’m done for the year. They accounted one fee for 2 years. That was shady, so I paid the fee and I placed a complaint. The VP called me to explain, I understood. Now my card is magically restricted, I can’t take out money or make a purchase or speak to anyone on a Saturday because they’re closed. I have funds in the account and can’t use them because they blocked me from using my own card for no apparent reason and without my permission.

Been with Telco for 4 close to 5 years. We have over 100k annually going into our account. They denied us a checking because we owed another bank at the time we opened our account. Since then our credit score has improved to nearly a 700 beacon with credit cards from Capital One. Our direct deposit has always hit our Telco account for as long as we've been members and they lied about reviewing our credit in 6 months to determine if we can open a Checking! Instead we are stuck with a ATM card that occasionally gets marked for fraud using. Can't contact anyone cause they are closed on the weekends. This happened in SC and out of town. I have had enough with this bank because we have benefitted nothing by being a member. Our direct deposits will no longer go to your branch in North Charleston because we are switching to Chase effective immediately!!! I give this bank as a whole 2 thumbs down ??. I will never recommend anyone to bank with this company.

They charge a prepayment penalty for extra payments. Not a very good practice. I will probably not seek a loan from them in the future

Everything about this bank is absolutely great. Several years ago my dad helped me to get a loan from this company in order to build my credit and also pay for a TV. I was able to set up an automatic withdrawal from my checking account to pay for the loan so everything was extremely easy. I have now recently opened up a savings account which has been great. Me and my fiance are saving money to buy a house, and they offer lots of good options to invest your money. I really enjoy everything that South Carolina Telco has to offer and I look forward to banking with them for the rest of my life!

The Carolinas Telco Federal Credit Union is a boon for employees in the Telecom sector. Unlike most companies, who claim to be the jack of all, servicing people from all sectors, where they hardly know anything about employees spending expenditure, the Carolinas Telco stands out for its undisputed performance. When I moved into Charlotte from NJ, my brother applied this card as he was with the Telecom sector and his card came with highly customized features that were specific to his needs. Its great to have a team that works on your requirements and doesn't shy away from what you really want. The customer service and disclosures have been phenomenal. Kudos!

I'm currently enrolled at this credit union with a checking account. I love the fact that there is no monthly balance requirements and no monthly service charges as well! I used to be a part of SunTrust bank back in the day and they required me to have a $500 minimum balance! Although the minimum balance requirement wasn't really that bad, sometimes I don't constantly check my bank account balance and would like to know that I have a little leg room just in case I'm a little sufficient in funds due to bills or not making enough income. You are allowed 5 free ATM transactions which I think is fantastic! At SunTrust bank it was difficult finding SunTrust ATMs and I would always get charged a $1 or $2 fee, that fee can add up easily! This credit union uses a Visa Check Card for purchases, so I have no issues making purchases of course! Overall, I'm very satisfied with this credit union so far and don't plan on switching for a while, if at all!
