CUSTOMER BEWARE!
I have been with Community First Credit Union for a few years now after trading in a previous vehicle I had with a different credit union. I have had two major issues with Community First Credit Union, to the point where I majorly regret trading in the other car I had because I was with a way better company with my previous vehicle.
The first issue I had arrised about a year and a half ago when I checked my credit report one day and saw that Community First Credit Union had wrongfully reported late payments. To the point where this knocked my credit down significantly (prior to their screw up my credit score was 760 and they knocked it down to less than 600). A 760 credit score in my early to mid twenties was something I was damn proud of and worked VERY hard for. I had them on automatic bill pay, so safe to say they were receiving their payments on time from me. I was doing my part. When my bill pay payments would get delivered to their PO box, their employees would take a very long time to pick up the mail and would add my payment on to my account late. My payments were always delivered by or on my exact due date and they were always dated as such. However this is what they would do: they would not check the mail for days, and then when they finally did check it and add the payment to my account they would try to say it was a late payment- because THEY didn't pick it up on time, even though I was making sure it was delivered on time. For example you could see a clear date on the check for my due date or even early, but yet on my account they would mark the payment for the day that they put it in the system and not the day that it came in. I spoke to them about this several times and tried to get them to reverse the late payments and fix my credit score because it is not my fault that they decided to process my payment way after the fact. Not only did they not comply, they offered no solution and continued to do this to me for many more months which is how they caused my credit score to drop all the way from 760 down to below 600. When I called to try to resolve it yet again THATS when they finally decided to tell me that I can do ACH payments and have the amount taken out automatically from my bank directly on the due date, to prevent any employee from adding a late payment that's not really late. Something they literally could have told me months ago and my credit score might have not been AS bad. And they also did not report to the credit bureau that they were reporting inaccurate information to my credit report, so I am still trying to build my score back up. I was working up my credit score to be able to have less struggle buying a house by the time I was 30. I'm now 29 and I'm nowhere near being able to have a credit score good enough to purchase a house now because of them. So I did add ACH payments and fast forward a little over a year and that brings us to the second major issue, which has happened over the last week:
I recently started a new job and was not getting my first paycheck until April 17th, my car payment is due on the 10th. 7 days is well within their grace period. I can pay that late and not have it result in a late fee or a ding to my credit, as they told me on the phone when I called to let them know that I was revoking payment for the 10th. The person I spoke to acted very helpful and said it wasn't going to be an issue at all. So after calling them and revoking authorization for the 10th and them expressing they understand and that is okay... Tell me why I checked my bank account on the 10th to make sure that they didn't take it out (even told them on the phone it absolutely cannot come out because it was going to overdraw my bank account and I was not going to be able to even buy food for the next week) THEY TOOK IT OUT!! And overdrew my account so bad that I was now over $300 in the hole. That was supposed to be my food and gas money for the next week until I got my first paycheck. This put my household in a serious emergency and even after I called and emailed them to get them to refund the money back into my account immediately, miraculously nobody I spoke to on the phone could help me. They kept passing me around when they could have just made it right. Them taking the money out of my account after I have revoked authorization is in fact considered fraud. When I disputed it with my bank that is literally the reason they put, FRAUD...at the hands of Community First Credit Union. After my phone attempts did not work and I started emailing, I finally got a response (only after emailing some higher up divisions in the company such as their fraud department). That response came two days before the 17th. And of course he was not willing to just refund it back into my bank account as he should have. He wanted to write a check and take the time to mail it like that was going to make me be able to buy food immediately. His other solution was making me open an account with some branch that was local and they could send the money there and I could pick it up. Mind you this is literally right when I said I'd be able to pay too. I was literally getting paid the very next day by the time he actually wrote me and offered all of these not very helpful "solutions". I will say right now that I do not exactly take kindly to these corporations completely turning my world upside down, completely out of my control when I did my part. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy and I'm now looking at other companies to refinance this vehicle through so I never have to deal with them again. I should have left after they majorly messed my credit up.

The assistant manager at the Richmond branch does not understand the word "after." As per your CD grace period, you can make changes to your certificate without penalty for ten days after the maturity date. My son's CD matured on January 30th. Now if you take ten days after the 30th, you get February 9th. Since February 9th is a Sunday, we came in on Monday morning. The assistant manager says you have to count January 30th. She does not comprehend the term "after." My son had to pay a penalty of $227.46, which turned out to be almost two years of interest on the CD. My son is mentally handicapped and this is what he encounters. I have been with your institution for over 40 years. My son and I had a very large investment at the credit union. Needless to say, I am now in the process of transferring all my money out and Fox Community Credit Union appreciates it much more than you did.

DO NOT RELY ON DEPOSITING CHECKS FROM ANY LARGE COMPANY at Community First CU. This Credit Union is a joke. I deposited a check for $1,800 that I received directly from Fedex. CFCU said there would be a 5 day hold before releasing funds. It has been over 3 WEEKS and they have actually had the gall to say the check is fake. I sent them proof from the check clearing accounting department at Fedex that the check has cleared on their end. Yet, CFCU says they do not have the funds. They say the email from them isn't good enough.I offered to do a conference call with Fedex. They refused. I sent them pics of the envelope with the tracking number and my name and address on. They say that could be fabricated. They are doing nothing on their end to track the transaction. Where does a credit union that claims to be for the community and has the audacity to even use the word Community in their title, hold a deposit for 3 weeks. I retired from ownership in a tax and accounting firm and sent this credit union many customers over the years. So sorry I ever did. If I could take it all back I would. BTW, they offered to cancel the transaction. Don't they realize that doing so would mean that I would have to file my request for payment from Fedex all over again. I waited 6 weeks for them to send me their check. Is there no protection for the consumer any longer? Well, definitely not at Community First Credit Union.

Deposited a car accident check from my attorney office on my bank account. The next couple of days my debit card and my mobile account was lock out, telling the deposit must be a fraud. On my way back home, I stopped at branch to figure out what's going on. Talked with online bank assistance, and it asked me so many questions: where's the check came from? How I get this check? And bla, bla, bla. They ask me to take the check and attorney letter to the branch, i took to the branch but won't let they scanner or do anythingelse with it. They keeping saying that my check will cash out at December 26th, but I am not at rushing for money, I have positive balance at same bank account, i just wanted deposit my check. Talked to merril rd branch manager, hes make his job: lot of apologizes, it to protect my account against to fraud, lot of fraud at this time of the year, bla, bla, bla. Thought about to move my business account from 121 financial credit union but it better no. Really weird situation, felt so bad, and would like to share with you'all stupid things that I been through.

Given my first loan, for a house I was trying to rent. Not even a year later, I found myself in credit card trouble. Asked for help, even tho I had already had a loan with them, and credit was worse this time around, they approved this loan, and helped me tremendously, when they could have looked past me. Thankful, and they were helpful, quick to respond, and processed.

My 87 year old mother's car was repossessed. We were able to get it back. However, this was caused by the credit union stopping her auto payment on her loan without her permission and without notifying her. When the loan went into arrears, she also had no notice. When her car was repossessed, there was no notice. Neither the bank nor the repossession company left any kind of paperwork or call or email notification. This event happened the day before a holiday which meant we were charged additional storage fees with the repossession company. Did they think they could get away with this because she is elderly?? I think yes. We went into the Novato branch. The teller Julio Medina had to call somebody somewhere unknown for help. We talked to a woman named Katie who was excellent but clearly could only help us with the repossession--not with the whys. I later had to call Julio for help. I left two phone messages and he NEVER called back. What kind of service is this?? Stay far away from this credit union. They promise the world and don't deliver and abuse people who cannot fight for themselves.

Community First CU does NOT offer online Principal Payments on loans. CFCU online services are 20 years behind the industry. Online Principal payments are offered at Credit unions. Avoid Community First Credit Union if want the convenience of online principal payments. I am closing my accounts with them, what good is a bank card with a VISA LOGO IF THEY REFUSE TO PROTECT THEIR CUSTOMERS... Even the asst branch manager would not help.

Wonder why this local credit union that spends a lot on local advertising has a 3.1 rating on Google? Their policies are ridiculous and there is no flexibility it seems. These aren't banking laws....it's their own policies. Other financial institutions locally don't have these policies. I've been trying to close an account here for weeks...literally weeks. Every time I make another step along the way of their game they throw another step or policy at me. I personally went in and talked to Alicia at the Bellevue branch but just got lectured which wasn't appreciated. I understand policies....which I patiently listened to. I expected her to listen to my struggle though and that just didn't happen. Policies. More policies. My suggestion is to find another place to put money.
