I am currently dealing with an issue where this company charged off my account in the middle of filing chapter 13 bankruptcy. They had purchased the account from another company I refinanced my vehicle with, when they purchased the account it was behind, but it was not in a charged off status. I had even made a payment to them after they received the account. I advised them I was filing, they put the account on hold and I filed in Jan 2019, 4mos after they bought the account. They never responded to the attorney letters to confirm the debt and in Mar of 2019 I found out after seeing my credit report updated through credit karma that they had charged off the account. It has been 2 years of going back and forth between First Investors and the company they said they sold the account to and that company said they never received the account from first investors and first investors saying they did. I had to dispute the acct with the credit bureau to try and resolve the balance in some way and after 2 years first investors says they made a mistake and had never sold the account. First investors is very sloppy with paperwork and they can ruin your credit profile by putting accounts in negative statuses and in my case they charged the account off without me even knowing while I was in bankruptcy and had not even sold the account. I have since resumed payments but they have applied an additional 6000 in interest. I really need direction on this if anyone can direct me. Be careful dealing with this company.
