On March 27, 2025, my wife filled out a form advising Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois that as of April 1, 2025, she is switching her Medicare G supplement to another insurance company due to the high cost of the BCBS plan ($189.90 vs $128). On April 2, 2025, BCBS still withdrew $189.90 from my checking account for the month of April 2025. One month later, still no premium refund. BCBS has not even responded to my complaints from the BBB, Illinois Insurance Board, or the Illinois Attorney General Consumer Division.

BlueCross-BlueShield promised my 90-year-old mother that her prescription drug cost would be reduced from $500.00 per month to $47.00 per month. They lied.

They couldn't care less if we all died. Nothing is covered; no one takes it. It's useless insurance from heartless people. All they care about is money, not our health.

BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois Medical Director has made decisions that I deeply disagree with. I am battling Carcinoma Stage 3 cancer, and this health insurance has denied a request for Fulphila medication recommended by Nebraska Cancer Specialists. It is tragic that health care insurance companies appear to prioritize profits. They generate high revenues through substantial premiums, and then withhold payment for patients in dire need like myself. It seems that the primary objective of this Insurance Medical Director is to maximize profits for the company, at the expense of providing coverage for essential cancer medications. I believe that these individuals lack compassion and are motivated by financial interests rather than the wellbeing of patients.

They are transphobic and refused to cover my transition care. They have also consistently made it more difficult to get my psychiatric meds that I need than it should be. There was one incident earlier this year where they decided they would only cover my antidepressants if I got a 90 day supply from CVS, after having gotten mine from Walgreens for a while. They told me I needed to fill out paperwork, but they led me to the wrong location to do so. I kept having to call them as well as my healthcare provider and the pharmacies, where they all kept pointing fingers at each other instead of trying to solve the issue. BCBS has made me fearful of seeking medical treatment because they have shown that they would rather jerk me around than cover my medical bills.

DIGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE! I have been through 6 different phone numbers, as a provider, and am completely unable to actually TALK TO A PERSON. I am recommending that my doctor drop the contract. If they can't even take time to pick up the phone to talk to providers, how do patients get ahold of anyone. The Availity website sucks and even if it worked, the questions that we have are not going to be on the site. I understand it's easier and cheaper for them to not have people available, but this is ridiculous. Let's just get rid of all people. If I could give zero stars, I would have.

BCBSIL totally failed my wife and I. She fell and broke her arm in two places and we went to an in-network ER. From there we got sent to an out-of-network orthopedic surgeon. They were ready for surgery until an insurance hiccup stopped treatment. We were in Fox Valley Group 199 and we needed to be in Fox Valley Group 475. I called BCBS and after 30 minutes on hold I was able to make the change. The problem? It would not take affect for 24 hours. They sent my wife home pumped full of opioids rather that do the necessary, and verifiably approved, surgery. Two days later she is finally going in to treat the broken bones. It is obvious that BCBSIL cannot handle an emergency, and that is when you would need them most. They are corporate monsters who only care about money. The stress I am going thru being helpless to help my wife has taken a serious toll on my well being. I am depressed and have had very dark thoughts, all because of BCBSIL.

Wow, that is really horrible - Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL clearly has EARNED its BAD reputation - stay away from this insurance if you can. The people in claims and corp. are greedy and could care less about providing insurance, they are lining there pockets every day, and the claims and other departments are full of sociopaths.

Frequently refuses to take responsibility for their contractual obligations. Their relationship with PCN demonstrates their complete lack of morals and ethics. PCN routinely loses treatment authorizations and tries to deny claims they already agreed in writing to cover. Activity borders on criminality.
