Liberty Federal Credit Union Reviews
The WalletHub rating is comprised of reviews from both WalletHub users and ratings on other reputable websites. The rating was last updated on 11/03/2025.
What's Your Rating?
1. The 'Freedom' of High Interest Rates:
They promise you freedom, but what you get is financial bondage at interest rates so high, they might as well rename themselves 'Federal Credit Union.' You'll be paying off your vacation to Debt Island for the rest of your life!
2. The Fee Bonanza:
Oh, the fees! There's a fee for breathing near your card, a fee for looking at it, and a fee for even thinking about using it. They've got more fees than a medieval tax collector. My favorite? The 'we just felt like charging you' fee.
3. The Approval Process - A Joke:
Getting approved feels like winning the lottery, but then you realize the prize is a one-way ticket to Debtville. They approve you, but the credit limit? It's like they're handing out game money. $300? Wow, I can almost buy a sandwich with that!
4. Customer Service - Where Logic Goes to Die:
Calling customer service is like dialing into the void. If you do get through, you're greeted by someone who's been trained in the art of circular conversations. They're experts in not solving your problems while making you feel like you're the one who's hard to deal with.
5. The Rewards Program - More Like Punishment Program:
Their rewards? It's as if they reward you with the honor of paying more fees. You'd earn more points by collecting bottle caps. I once got a 'reward' of a 1% cash back - after a year of spending, I could afford... a stick of gum!
6. The Security - Or Lack Thereof:
They ask for so much personal information, you start to wonder if they're planning to clone you. And when there's fraud? It's as if they've never heard of it. 'Fraud? What's that?' they say, while your account is being drained faster than my patience.
7. The Misleading Terms:
The terms and conditions are written in 'Scam Speak.' Sign up for one thing, get something entirely different. It's like ordering a steak and getting a rubber chicken. They change terms faster than a chameleon on a disco ball.
8. The Bill Payment System - A Maze:
Paying your bill? Good luck. Their system is designed like a labyrinth where the Minotaur is a 30% late fee. Auto-pay? Sure, if you want them to randomly take out extra money 'just because.'
9. The Loan Upgrade Scam:
They lure you in with promises of 'upgrading' your loan situation, only to find out it's just a fancy term for 'let's charge you more.' It's like upgrading from a leaky boat to a sinking one.
10. The BBB Reviews - A Comedy Show:
If you look at their BBB reviews, it's a veritable comedy show of horror stories. People recount tales of woe so dramatic, they'd make Shakespeare roll over in his grave laughing.
Conclusion:
Liberty Federal Credit Union's credit card isn't just a scam; it's an art form. They've mastered the craft of turning your financial dreams into nightmares. If you're considering getting their card, you might as well throw your money into a fire and watch it burn - at least that would be more entertaining.
So, if you value your financial sanity, steer clear of this 'credit union.' Unless, of course, you've always wondered what it feels like to be financially taken advantage of with a smile.
Also opened my first home mortgage through them (which the subsequently sold to another lender). They saved me a LOT of money both up front and on the monthly payment versus other lenders I shopped who told me I wouldn't quality for USDA (rural) loan. They got me into that program no problem and the process was 100% painless as a first time buyer.
I applied to refinance my auto loan through them to get all my financial products under one roof. They came back 3% APR higher than my current lender, and my credit has improved substantially since I took out the original loan, so I would have expected a better rate, not worse. So unfortunately their auto loan rates do not seem competitive, your mileage may vary.
