This company is absolutely dreadful. I was an investment consultant for many years, and if I didn't answer my phone or return their calls, they would leave. I had to call five times to find out a loan was paid off. The collective intelligence of the people I spoke with had an IQ of room temperature on a good day. I was kind enough to give constructive criticism to the CEO. Mistake. He couldn’t care less. I am moving everything on Monday. The business model is very poor and it doesn't have a clue about the business they are in. Last I heard, it was customer service. Hardly. Good riddance. We have many choices. I dislike working with incompetent people.

Reeva Wyman was extremely helpful when my wife and I were transferring funds at Midcoast FCU. She made the whole experience positive.

Terrible experience with Katie Ferland buying our home. We wanted to keep our money in Maine with a Credit Union and I can’t express enough how much we regret this decision.
I was consistently and deliberately left out of communications and only my spouse was on emails, we were constantly pressured with “urgent/emergent issues” that needed to be done last minute - including an insurance issue which she “called in a favor for” with another insurance company resulting us in paying over 4x what the prior homeowner was paying (so much that the title office commented on it!!).
In addition, the last time our closing was delayed my spouse received an email at 4:45 pm the day prior to closing (!), I was left off the communication and neither me or my spouse received the decency of a phone call.
When I called (the next morning) and discussed this with her, we were offered no apology until I expressed repeatedly how disappointed and frustrated we were with the whole process. (As contrast, the title office and our lawyers office both contacted us on their own volition expressing concern and making sure that everything was ok). It was very difficult to get specifics about the cause for delays, although interestingly it was always expressed it was never the banks (or Katie’s) fault - the buck always stopped somewhere else. We were even told it was “our fault” for delays for not going through a realtor when this was a private sale and there was no need for a realtor. If this is the type of service that earns you a "Rising Star" award I shudder to think what other levels of 'customer service' are condoned.

They closed my kids' savings accounts, after charging them $5 per month due to inactivity during the pandemic. I called them and wrote to them about their shameful behavior and they said it was all disclosed to my children in the fine print, when they opened their accounts at ages 3 and 4. This is a disgusting way of "teaching" financial literacy to children. Closing my account and not looking back at a disgraceful excuse for a financial institution.

I am advising any and all potential clients of MCFCU to find another credit union to join. Likewise, I encourage all current clients to move their business elsewhere. They do NOT embody the "CU Spirit." Their attirude is much more like a bad bank, but worse. Their fees are outrageous and their customer service is horrible. Representatives and supervisors alike are rude and unwilling to work with their clients. In the past few months, unknown to me, I was charged nearly $65 in fees stemming from transferring funds from my savings account to my checking account, a process most credit unions do for free. No apology was made, I was just told that the information was somewhere in my initial account opening packet. I spoke with several different account representatives and one supervisor, and ALL were very trite, defensive and rude.

For over 18 months I regularly relied on Midcoast Federal Credit Union to deposit my checks to another credit union. Today when I went there, to my surprise my driver’s license was not in my wallet. Although they know me by face, have records of all my transactions, see that I have other proofs of identity, and know that I am not a security risk, refused to deposit my check. It wasn’t the wasted hour of travel that got me. It was that so much was riding on this deposit, as little as the amount was, and despite me explaining this, no one in that branch cared other than what was their policy: no driver’s license, no deposit. There is good reason to bank with credit unions. But Midcoast Federal Credit Union has a staff incapable of making sound customer-care decisions in unexpected situations such as mine. Until Midcoast Federal Credit Union receives professionalism training I am banking in an institution that treats me like a human, in addition to following security protocol.

I don't like working with Midcoast at all. They are SO SLOW. There is never a line at their main branch in Freeport, yet it takes forever to get a transaction done. The people at the counter rarely - if ever - know the answer to things and almost always have to walk over to someone else's office. Shared branching is a joke. It's advertised as being fast and reliable but it takes a very long time for them to look up both accounts, and the tellers rarely seem to know what to do. Overall I find them inefficient and would choose another credit union if I had it to do over.

This credit union is a good choice because they don't have long lines. I use the branch in Edgecomb. The tellers are friendly, and mostly helpful. I like that you can get an ATM card instantly. The downside is that if you have a check over $100, they hold it for 10 days for the first 6 months. If you have a small business it is a problem. I like the kids program Monty Moose. It helps kids save money because they get points for the money they save and then get toys, plus their money in the bank.
