Northern Trust

I have never been spoken to in my life the way these people have. They've given me nothing but word salad, not an intelligent answer to the simplest question, such as whether my father's trust is a CRUT, a CRAT, or a Unitrust. I have managed my father's trust for almost six years, and they have switched account managers four times already, with no explanation, just an email stating, "This person is no longer with Northern Affective immediately." Now they are using every tax trick ever invented to keep the distributions I receive to a bare minimum while I'm struggling financially. I have to set money aside now so I can get an attorney to force them to give me an accounting that they are refusing to hand over. These people truly epitomize sleaze because when my brother died suddenly, they didn't bother to inform us that my father had made provisions for burial costs to be paid from the trust. My sister-in-law couldn't even afford to retrieve his ashes, and they knew this. What the heck! Such self-entitled, self-serving, greedy behavior, and now I'm certain, employee thievery running rampant—a scandalous inner cabal of deceitful individuals!

While the income is good, dealing with Northern Trust is terrible. In 2024, Assigned to an account manager who is never there, away for an indefinite period of time. This period lasted around four months in 2024 and is still continuing into 2025. Then, if 2024 is any indication, the manager returns for a couple of weeks, then goes on "vacation." The referral person does nothing and judges people by their surname. How many clients are dumped into this waste bin? Ones they want to rope into their guardianship for profit. If you don't like the way Northern Trust treats you, they suggest you have severe mental issues. They create as many unnecessary difficulties as possible. They really want you to do business over the phone, so they can provide misleading information and then claim you misunderstood.

Poor Customer Service - Went through the process to electronically link accounts, received my two deposits, but Northern Trust's system would still not allow me to link. I needed to complete this transfer because Northern Trust would not cash a check my daughter wrote and then kept the money, $55,500, out of her account for 2 days. Could not link accounts electronically, would not cash a check. They just apologized. They would not take responsibility for anything and had no empathy that she was trying to buy a house and needed the funds. I have an account with them and told them I would guarantee these funds with my account, but still, they did nothing. Put your money somewhere else if you can.

Stay away at all cost. Service is poor and they can’t execute on the simplest of customer requests. Instructions and agreements of NT employees are ignored, they seldom will call you if these is an issue and do whatever they please with your money. They are totally incompetent.

Hello, I have been a beneficiary for my whole life. I know what I'm talking about. All the trust offers care about the money I guess that's what their suppose to do. But the customer service is bad. I am almost through with them and can't wait to get out of the control of strangers. These people I think are only there to control people's lives and be part of investment for themselves
I can say that they do invest well because my trust in my family since 1930s. But when I send an email do I hear back nope not usually. I believe if they treated their beneficiaries with more respect they would be a better business. We are human beings and deserve to be treated that way.

Beware/Beware/Beware I cannot believe the incompetence and lack of customer service and mismanagement from Northern Trust. They never respond to emails and will only permit phone contact which is difficult when are overseas and fifteen hours ahead of Chicago..... hello it is 2023!!! . Any communication/contact you have with them goes into a big deep hole never to be seen or heard of again. Truly the epitome of gross mismanagement. Only giving a one star rating to enable this to be submitted.

As a current Beneficiary to an estate that my parents entrusted to Norther Trust, I would like to warn individuals considering do business with them to avoid doing so. The incompetence level at Northern Trust is extremely high. Their fees are astronomical, and they won't close an estate for several years while they continue to collect fees. Stay away, you've been warned.

Terrible customer service. I am stuck with them because of work but I would never use on my own. Very hard to get information. I would never recommend.

Terrible service. Not easy to get information and the website is awful. Whenever there is an issue it takes an inordinate amount of effort to communicate with anyone over there.
