This bank absolutely sucks. I was scammed for $20,000 back in December from someone who was utilizing an account with Salal Credit Union. I have all the information I need to provide them and have asked for minimal details pertaining to things I've needed such as if the account is still active that was being used and if there's an ongoing investigation outside of the FTC investigation that I've already opened and to no avail Heather and Miyana who are both representatives that have not HELPED ME AT ALL. I have been hung up on, lied to, given minimal information regarding an account that THEY HAVE STILL OPENED even considering that I was scammed for $20,000 through FRAUDULENT CHECKS that were used from their institution. Screw this bank and I hope to get every single penny back.

Do not use they are crooked and will steal money and lie stay away! They had me get lots of things extra money to open a business and I did not need according to my business attorney. I had banked with them personally and closed all those accounts as I found they had internal fraud going on within their own employees. Never again! Also one day an account shows up on mine with 150k credit limit not my name and not my account. Good thing I am honest unlike Salal Credit Union and its employees.

The people at Salal CU are very nice, but I've been with them a few years now and their online access is horrendous. Since day one the setup of the account was confusing and a giant pain. After multiple phone calls it finally worked, and since then we have been locked out of our account many times over the years. The people on the phone apologize up and down, but nothing ever changes. They lock you out after three attempts. You have to call them on the phone, sometimes they can reset the account, sometimes you have to do it from a desktop and not a mobile phone, and sometimes you have to talk to someone who isn't available on weekends. This weekend we were looking to purchase a car and shift some funds around, the account locked us out, we were at the dealership and phoned the help line, they walked us through resetting the password which didn't work on our cell phones...we were told we may have to do it from our desktop (one hour away from the dealership). We got home and tried to reset it, the system wouldn't let us and we called the help line again and they have to have someone else call us back during regular hours (not weekends!) Now we have to wait until Monday at the earliest for a phone call back, then have to wait until the following weekend to go car shopping again. This is just some of the frustration we've had over the account getting locked many times. Also, during the pandemic, you have to make a reservation to go into the bank. If you need more money than the cash machine will give you in a day, you can't just drop by the bank. You may have to wait 1-2 days just for a one minute teller transaction to get cash. Maybe they're trying a little too hard for security and pandemic safety, but the convenience to the customer is completely gone. We are looking elsewhere for a credit union account.

They offer an Emerald Checking account which has 6$ fee per month. They used to offer 20% off gift card orders from a third party vendor but not anymore. The checking account also claims to offer ID theft protection but to be honest it is too complicated to use and I do not even bother to sign up. I am thinking about just getting a free checking account. Their ATMs are broken sometimes and they do have other shared branching ATMs. The service is OK and they are closed on holidays and part of Saturday. Their online banking sucks. Mobile banking is OK.

I was actually a member of Group Health CU which was then purchased or acquired by Salal. As GHCU I thought they were great, I had two auto loans through them and never had any issues, one of loans was to a private party which I thought would be a nightmare to deal with but the application process was easy and they cut us a check for the amount of the vehicle and sent us on our way! After they changed to Salal their customer service went down, significantly. Their branches are not very conveniently located and there were never enough people working and you ended up standing in line for 20 mins. GHCU had the same location issue and occasionally the staffing issue but they were at least nice when you finally got to see someone! Once the loans were paid I tried to get a copy of the titles and that was just a nightmare, they kept trying to charge me or more like they automatically deducted $15 from my account to send me a copy and even then what they did send me the DOL wouldn't accept! I also moved across the country and went in to a branch to change my address and told them that I would be moving to prevent any issues and wouldn't you know, I'm out at lunch with my new boss and his boss, go to pay for mine and my card is declined! They shut it off, after I'd been there for 2 weeks, because they thought it might be fraudulent charges. I appreciate the security but one, I told them I was moving and two, a phone call asking me what was going on would've been nice! Overall it's not an awful credit union, they're rates were decent and you can earn points by using your debit/credit card which can be used to buy down your interest rate. One last thought...direct deposit was reliant on someone going into their office and physically pushing a button to accept / disperse the funds, this was usually done by around 8AM on the day you got paid but there were times when said person was out of the office and it didn't happen until 10 or so. It doesn't sound like a big deal but if you're strapped for cash and expecting that money it can be a hassle.
