These people are useless. Today they suspended my account only because it's been 2 years since I opened it. No other reason given. I had to go through the reset process after not being able to buy groceries. WHAT IF I HAD BEEN ON VACATION?!? They allow no overseas purchases without talking to a rep to verify it. $2.50 in England??? Oh, that could break the bank. And you have to re-verify every merchant every 90 days, that are overseas. Last time I tried and gave up on the process it was for an online telescope in Australia that I have used for 20 years- they're the most reputable org I've ever dealt with. After having it verified twice before, the phone agent told me she didn't have the authority to do that. I asked for a supervisor, who wasn't available, and she called me back 2 days later...and had the gall to actually ask me, "So, why do you want to make this purchase". She said she'd think about it and 3 days later authorized it...for 30 days. I understand that banks eat the cost when someone does something fraudulent on your account, and being a small bank they want to keep that to zero. Fine. But they've gone way overboard with it. I have advice for them. Never want a fraud related cost? Fine. Unplug your computers. That's effectively what they've done with accounts. I thought, "I know the manager, mother-in-law has done business there for 50 years, right in the neighborhood, no monthly fees, what could be better?" Now I know. It's not usable. Like I said, what if I'd been on vacation or found out about the overseas policy when I had just gone there?
I had been banking with them since 2018. And, needless to say, that they are too primitive for me to use. I have never been so insulted by their lack of technology and the uselessness of their services (Navy Federal and ETPCU are far more advanced they are!) For example, when I wanted to freeze my card, I was told that I needed to download another app that can lock my bank card. You don't need 2 apps to lock a card. That is so stupid. Also, when I deposited $20 into my bank account it went into another bank account instead. I have never felt so infuriatingly outraged by their lack of competence as the money should've been into MY account instead of the other one. I will be giving them a piece of my mind soon and I will be closing my account along with it!
They bought a bank I used years ago and, without providing us any information, issued credit cards to my wife and me in June 2020. Since we had no idea who the bank was, we put the credit cards in our safe and forgot about them until today, when we received a letter saying they had closed our account, because it "is currently inactive." True statement, since we never activated the cards. Even the letter today had no mention of Southside Bank in the letterhead or the message. It came from "Cardmember Services" and looked about as legitimate as a Nigerian prince. It wasn't until I went to our safe to search cards ending in XXXX, that I matched up the generic "Cardmember Services" with the similarly incognito bank, and called to verify who they were. If they're not as shady as they look, they need to do some serious image work. I don't want or need their cards!
I have been banking at Southside for almost 50 years and have had car loans and mortgages with them. I recently asked for a very small personal loan and was rejected even though my credit score is 837. I tried to call my loan officer before noon today and they said that she was on another line and never called me back. I also have my retirement account with Raymond James. I remember the days when Titus Jones unlocked the door after they were closed to wrap up my car loan. I should have changed to Austin Bank. They are now the only true local owned bank with great customer service.

I am sitting in Southside Bank at 2020 Roseland Tyler, Texas right now with my daughter opening a checking account and savings account and the red headed girl asked for my daughters license and she handed it over and I can see her talking about my daughter to the male teller. They have a conversation about it and I see that he asked how old my daughter is and the red headed lady says 18 and they said a little more which I couldn’t hear. I asked the red headed girl if everything was okay with my daughters license and she smiled and said yes. I don’t know why she and the other teller was talking about my daughter but it made us feel very uncomfortable!!! This is the 2nd time I had a issue with this red headed girl. I should have written a review but didn’t!. That girl doesn’t need to be working with the public!!! We continue to open the accounts with a super sweet lady named Emily Valle!!! Emily is the only reason we stayed.

I have banked with Omni American for almost 20 years before they made the switch to Southside. They were my only bank. This bank has gone down the crapper ever since they took over. Issues with deposits, the app is outdated and worthless, customer service is terrible, and nobody working here seems to care about helping their customers. Recently one of the ATM's on their property took my debit card and didn't return it. The answer I got from the worthless teller was "Oh well....they have been doing that lately. You'll have to order a new one. It should be here in about 2-3 wks". No apology, no rush and getting a new card, and worse of all they kept the ATM open...even after all the problems they were having with it. Terrible place to bank. I'll be making a switch.

Southside Bank is the greatest. I have banked here since moving to Longview over 10 years ago and the staff is the friendliest and most professional bunch I could expect. When circumstances called for a car loan or a personal loan or a new account, I have been pleased to find all my nervousness assuaged by those I came into contact with and my needs met accurately and expeditiously. I have recommended newcomers to our city who I've had acquaintances with to check with Southside first when choosing their place of business or personal banking. I look forward to banking with Southside for my future needs just as I have relied on their expertise on my checking account. Thumbs up!
