SunWest Credit Union

Sunwest doesn't handle online services well. They have a message feature, but apparently, they do not check their messages because they never respond. I had a CD that they renewed despite my two requests to NOT renew the CD. When I called, they asked if I had called on the day of renewal with instructions. Of course not - I had already requested that it not be renewed. I am now working to cancel the CD without having to pay an early termination fee.

Hidden fees. Hard to get a hold of online. Trying to change passwords online results in them linking me to a wrong phone number that I never used. Paying with a credit card or debit card incurs an additional $10 charge. I'll never use them again. Very disappointed.

Terrible inconvenience. The Mesa branch wouldn't change a $20 for two $10s, even though I am a member of a credit union with shared branching, which they participate in. This is simply not what credit unions stand for. Really shocking.

I love this Credit Union! They are always helpful and cheerful when I am there taking care of my banking needs. I am so glad that I found them.

For a bank that has been around since 1937 and has assets totaling 575 million dollars and I think is the 14th largest in Arizona charging a "ten dollar convenient fee" is asinine! We are all in hard times with inflation hitting 10 to 12% here in Arizona! We are all losing 3% of our checks due to inflation! So for Sunwest to hit us up for ten dollars for simply paying on the phone to a robot is a slap in the face and just makes it harder on us! I'll be looking for another credit union asap.

Very easy credit union to deal with when I’ve gotten several loans with them in the past. Professional and friendly staff. Easy to use website.

Overall responsive for basic banking, but do not rely on SWFCU for any serious actions. I had a serious issue with a wire transfer for a down payment on a house. Not only did SWFCU provide me with incorrect information, thus creating an emergency, but the man I spoke with to try to resolve the situation was incredibly rude. As I was frantically trying to resolve the situation, I told him that SWFCU needed to get their act together so this didn't happen again. He proceeded to scream at me over the phone and then hang up. The home purchase nearly fell through b/c of SWFCU's mistake and this man's appallingly unethical behavior. Not only did SWFCU not apologize, but they seemed more concerned with covering themselves than resolving the issue. Shocking

Gladys Sanchez is unprofessional and rude. Not sure why a teller prints a copy of your driver’s license when you are depositing two checks in your account. Really sad you have to give it a star to leave a review.

I switched to SunWest during the Occupy movement. I was already fed up with my bank and their stupid fees (I'm a charity and you're taking money from me for your CEO??) Well, Credit Unions are owned by the members so, no more unnecessary fees. Plus it makes you feel better about supporting something that isn't trying to bleed you of all your money, just to HOLD YOUR MONEY! Friendly people work there, they know you and are very friendly. One thing most people don't realize, is that it only takes FIVE DOLLARS to open an account. No minimum, no monthly fee! I'm happy I switched.

SunWest Federal Credit Union is the first and only bank I have ever used. My father was a member before me, and somewhat amusingly I opened my account many years ago to cash in on an application bonus. They required me to keep 5$ of it in the account, and for years that was all I did - the rules never changed unexpectedly and I never had any reason to regret opening the account. Fast forward around a half dozen of years into the future and I'm in college, really needing a bank account for the first time in my life. My peers were opening accounts left and right with big chain-banks, and I was constantly hearing stories of how awfully they were treated by them. Fees everywhere, poor service, vague terms - and I never experienced any of that with SunWest. I give SunWest 5 stars because they have always done exactly what I wanted with no trouble at all.

I was having trouble with my bank for months – essentially what I had was a crippled checking account that I was paying 11 dollars a month to keep, with the possibility of a nasty overdraft charge if I neglected to keep enough money in to pay the bank’s fee.

So, I shopped around for credit unions and settled on Sunwest. The representative who opened my account was quick, friendly, and informed me of other services they offered (like secured credit cards to help me fix my credit). The opening balance was minimal (5 dollars), the lowest I found in the Tucson area, and the process of opening the account was less complicated than the other credit unions I considered. Also, SunWest belongs to a large network of surcharge free ATM machines (my old bank decided I couldn't have a debit card and when they did, wouldn't even issue me an ATM card so I had to go to the bank that was miles away to get any cash at all). Their online banking is no frills but is easy to register for and works great.

Most importantly, there are, as advertised. There are no monthly charges whatsoever, which is a huge relief to me since I need every penny. If they're in your area and you're looking to open a savings account, I can't see any reason not to go with them. When I'm able to open a checking account again I'll probably stick with Sunwest for that as well.
