Did an instant Venmo transfer to my checking account, which I do often. Usually takes about 30 seconds to show up in the account. Venmo sent me the usual notification that funds were sent but Umpqua Bank failed to send their notification acknowledging the deposit was complete…long story short, my card was declined in the grocery store in front of a line of people. Had to step aside and try to contact service via chat in the app, which said was a 2 minute estimated wait. Ten minutes later I get connected with a rep who asked “Are you still there?” AS I WAS TYPING yes, she said “Due to a lack of response I am disconnecting this chat.” So I waited again, still standing awkwardly near the checkout at the grocery store. Ten minutes later the second rep tells me there’s a “system issue with online banking that is estimated to resolve in one hour.” This type of unreliability is unacceptable this day and age. There’s no excuse for their programmers to be rolling out updates in the middle of the day Pacific Time even if they are all in India.
Was a customer since 2012, but closed my accounts today. I went into the bank last Wednesday to make cash deposits to my checking and savings accounts. I handed the teller two $100 bills to deposit into my checking account. She counted the money, entered the amount into the computer, then printed out receipts for the bank and then for me. I then gave her five $100 bills to deposit into my savings account. Same process, she counted the money, entered the amount into her computer and printed out receipts for both the bank and me.
Today (May 9) I had a dentist appointment so decided to check the balance in my checking account. The deposit for $200 showed up on May 3rd with another "OTC withdrawal" for $100?? I didn't withdraw ANY funds from the account so I called the bank to see what was going on. Spoke with another teller and told her my concerns. she said she would check into it and call me back (I also had the name of the teller - Jainee/Jaimee who had waited on me. The bank called back and said that I had only deposited $100 - WTH? She said Jainee/Jaimee had "mis-typed" the amount of my deposit? Whoa! She COUNTED the money in front of me, gave me a receipt for $200 and now says, no I only deposited $100!
I'm assuming at the end of the day when she had to balance her till there was a $100 discrepancy. The bank said the $100 OTC charge was to "take back" the $100 I supposedly didn't deposit! On top of that, NO ONE from Umpqua had the decency to contact me about ANY discrepancy! Now I know why Umpqua Bank has a shady reputation in the industry - "Investors who claim Umpqua Bank aided and abetted a $300 million Ponzi scheme perpetrated by one of its northern California borrowers have won a key legal battle. U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg in San Francisco denied the bank's motion for summary judgment, which keeps the case alive."
I drove the 40 miles to the bank and CLOSED both of my accounts! STAY AWAY FROM THESE THIEVES!!!
It is regrettable that Columbia Bank merged with Umpqua. Umpqua, which means fast running river, does not hold true with their banking system. The program they use is not on Parr with Columbia's system. It is inadequate, slow, doesn't use the forward thinking banking system that Columbia used. I would never bank with Umpqua if I knew that Columbia was going to merge with Umpquah. I may switch to another bank soon.
This bank is absolutely terrible!! They bought out my bank that I loved (Redding Bank of Commerce and then Columbia). I have had nothing but problems with Umpqua (including the fact there is rarely anyone local to speak with because you are told to call various 800 numbers) since the merger, most especially surrounding the on-line banking and bill pay system. I'm done - going to switch to Members First Credit Union.

If I could give 0 stars I would. They freeze your account without even notifying you. Even though they have your email and phone number they’ll still leave you in the dark until you find out days later that you can’t access your money or sign in online. Then it takes another 5+ days to get the issue resolved because their customer service department is incompetent. You’ll spend day’s calling and going back and forth. They say they will call you back but never do. If you don’t believe me, open a account and see for yourself. Literally the worse bank you could ever sign up for.
Beware...closed our business account and without telling me, the bank teller deducted $12 from our account before handing me my balance check. I questioned her, and her reply was bank policy. Add that to our list of reasons why we closed our account. This bank used to be good several years ago, but I would never recommend it now.
The employees at this bank are horrible. They have ridiculous rules that keep your money locked in their bank. They would not let me close an account and then we're charging me a new fee to rob me. When I filed a complaint I could not get a return phone call so I would suggest your sock before this bank. Absolutely atrocious!
completely sucks, my boyfriend hasn't gotten paid in a MONTH because of them. **** this bank completely, if we didn't have family to help we would be homeless all because of this bank.

Bad customer service !!!!!! Everyone is not trained the same and they will have you on hold forever with no conclusion to anything !!! BEWARE!!
Worst bank I've ever banked with in my 45 years of banking. In the 4 years I've banked with them, they have stopped payment on things I had $ to cover, causing much chaos. They have not bothered to notify me on important issues such as those stopped payments, allowing the chaos to increase and late fees to accrue. Their tellers and supervisors can't do anything but accept deposits and hand out money. They have no access to your more serious account info, which means you're forced to wait on the phone. I have quite literally spent HOURS waiting. I'm waiting right now to clear up their latest mistake and biggest problem yet. A week ago they froze my account for no reason. They put no notes into the file explaining why, nor did they bother to call or text me despite having my phone number OR email me despite having my email address or even leave me a message on my online account to tell me they had frozen it and why. I dealt with the fraud department for 5 days before a supervisor finally realized it was not their hold on the account but Bank Protection, not open until Monday. And now I'm on hold because Bank Protection isn't even answering the phone for their own representatives. Meanwhile no one has been able to tell me why I can't access my own money. If I hadn't experienced the humiliation of having my card declined, I would never have known and would've bounced "checks" all over! I just found out, as I'm typing this, that they froze the account because of a dispute I made from 2 months ago that not only was taken care of by the seller and myself but was OFFICIALLY declined by Umpqua Bank 30 days ago by letter. And still no one bothered to notify me. My local branch was supposed to email me but, gee, they didn't. Take your money and run away from this bank.
they suck so much, I am so sorry you went through this. As of right now my boyfriend has not been able to be paid for an entire month because of this horrible bank.
There's no way to earn points with the Umpqua Bank Visa® Platinum Card because it isn't a rewards card. It's a credit card that comes with an intro APR of 0% for 18 months for both purchases and balance transfers.
