They are bureaucratic to the extreme! They won't consider individual circumstances and don't care about its members to the slightest! They will instead provide a canned reply to all your attempts at resolving an issue. Plain and simple, UNFCU sucks!!!

Impossible to deal with. There is no way to contact a person who has any access to your loan. The rate is good, but here, 17 days after the initial application and 7 days after approval, I still can't get any information about where the funding stands, when it will be released, how it will be released, etc. Car sitting at the dealer for 10 days now... just, sitting. Call the 800 member number and member services can't access loan info, and they can't connect to people who can. Total crap case.

Unbelievably poor. Exceptionally slow, incompetent service. Ineffective customer support; all processes are slow. There is an urgent need to train staff - even on basic skills like reading and comprehension. UNFCU also needs to value its clients and re-orient itself around a vision that values customer service, including accuracy and efficiency.

Very slow and bureaucratic process. Our friends with other banks could get things done much faster, both for their original mortgage and for refinancing.

Worst bank ever. I should have known when it took me 8 months to open an account with them. Routine matters are impossible and their customer service is extremely bureaucratic and very poor. Their wire transfers are expensive and very slow, and they require a phone call to verify the request where they ask you 7 useless questions. When you're in the field with the UN this is impossible and such a time waste. What is the point when your bank is charging you $45 USD to wire transfer money? I would not recommend this bank to anyone, and can't even imagine what it would be like to deal with them on mortgages, credit cards or other bigger banking products. AVOID AVOID AVOID. If I could give them 0 stars I would.

Extremely defragmented operations with many careless staff members who care more about their vacation time than meeting their business obligations. I do not recommend dealing with them at all.

All around terrible experience with this company. Staff are lazy, incompetent and poorly trained. The company as a whole does not take its job seriously. They almost screwed up my first mortgage by not transferring the down payment in a timely manner. The mortgage was with another bank and I kept trying to explain to them that UNFU is not like a normal bank, so you can't expect things to happen in the way that a real bank would do things. It was cold comfort to the seller, but thankfully the transfer FINALLY came in. What takes a real bank 24 hours with take UNFCU up to a week easily. When I tried to transfer money to my mother to cover medical care for my nephew customer service called her at 3:00am (shortly after she had been widowed) to ask her some security questions!! I already knew they were terrible as a credit union, but I had used them as I had to move a lot working for the UN and it was the easiest way to get my direct deposit. Now that I am retired, once again, easiest way to get my pension payments direct deposited. The stupidest thing I ever did was to get a mortgage with them. Please, do not under any circumstances make this mistake. The service is beyond terrible. They will not lift a finger for you. It was the second mortgage I had gotten, so I had something to compare it to. It was a nightmare. They don't even tell you what they need up front, then penalize you for not getting it. Just now I find out they are charging me an exorbitant rate for extra insurance on a rental condo I bought because the Master policy expired (and was renewed) one month after I bought the property. But instead of contacting me by email or phone to ask for a copy of the renewed master insurance policy, they did nothing more then send a letter to a townhouse where I no longer live (because I have moved in with my elderly mother who is sick and needs assistance telling me they were going to start charging me for a policy they would buy. So now they are charging me 70$ a month for a policy I do not need when all they had to do was send me an effing email to ask for a copy of the renewed Master Insurance policy. Don't be fooled by the seemingly low interest rates like I was. They made so many mistakes and so many false statements that cost me money that the low interest has no value. STAY AWAY ESPECIALLY from the mortgage department. They will play nice with you until they get your business, representing themselves as a legitimate financial institution. But after that, they will leave you to fend for yourself, with not assistance, no customer service and no realistic attempt to reach you before making adding unnecessary and costly charges to you mortgage payments. And this was not the only uncalled for charge they've made in less than a year. TOTAL DISASTER. RUN THE OTHER WAY. PAY A LITTLE EXTRA ON THE INTEREST RATE TO WORK WITH A LEGITIMATE INSTITUTION GETTING YOUR MORTGAGE.

Was approved for a home loan (as a business owner) in record time at a great rate! The servicing of my loan has been professional and questions are easily answered too. My loan officer Ruthanne Mashchenko was a pleasure to work with and was clear on documentation needed to close. Made it easy!

Don't bother. The only reason I joined was to get their credit card with PIN priority, as I travel a lot and having a credit card with rewards, no international fees, and true PIN priory would be highly beneficial to me personally. Something as simple as a credit card application was needlessly time consuming and required gratuitous financial disclosures. Even with a credit score upwards of 800 and proving income that would certainly meet minimal requirements, I was asked to disclose 5 years worth of tax documentation and send copies of recent pay stubs. I understand a lender has to do their homework before issuing a credit line to any customer, but UNFCU treats a credit card application like a mortgage and does not offer anything close to modern credit card application process. I sent them a few emails on the subject but never gained a response. Poor customer service, old banking practices, and you can buy your way into membership for $10 USD. If you are looking for a credit card with PIN priority, look elsewhere!

Headquartered in New York but with branches in Europe and Africa, the United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) is the premier financial institution for the staff members and families of the United Nations. UNFCU offers competition loan and savings accounts rates. The credit union truly caters to its membership by offering mortgages to international United Nations employees. UN staff members often retain their accounts even after leaving the United States to move back to their home countries. Although there seems to have been a decline in some of the services offered, UNFCU has still been able to retain its membership even during the Great Recession. UNFCU seems to be sound financially and its members continue to remain loyal to it. I will never close my UNFCU accounts.
