Wauna Credit Union

I want to give a huge shout-out to Brandi; thank you so much. Thank you for knowing just what to do. You have helped me several times. You are one of many reasons why I choose to bank with Wauna. Thank you for your kindness and professionalism. Good old-fashioned hospitality. I appreciate you. Thank you, Wauna, for great staff.

The credit union is all about serving small town people with less than perfect financial situations. This seems great, but it means they don’t offer the same services as a bank, or even bigger credit union like Fibre or Onpoint. You can’t get through on the phone, so you have to drive to of their handful of locations. You can’t open accounts online, even if it’s just adding a CD when you already have checking and savings. When something goes wrong, or they have you wrong information, there isn’t a record since you talked to somebody in person.

Their rates are not great either if you have good credit. If you personally know somebody there though they can “vouch” for you, so it is a good place if you can’t get a loan somewhere else.

I have to be honest. I do love this credit union and am a loyal customer. That is why I rated it 3 stars instead of 1. I applied for a small loan today because the hotel I manage was one of many that shut down because of the corona virus. I know my credit is not the greatest but I kept seeing advertisements that Wauna credit union was willing to help people in need during this difficult time. That is the ONLY reason I decided to swallow my pride and ask them for a loan. I have been at my job for almost a decade and at my address for nearly the same amount of time. I never saw this coming. Despite not having great credit I thought because of the pandemic and my long work history I might actually get approved for a small loan to get me through this difficult time. To put food on the table, gas in the car, help pay for prescriptions, and keep up on bills. The answer was a very quick NO. I was told by the agent on the phone that she would talk to the "underwriters" I think is what she said and see if they would approve it anyways and that she would get back to me by the end of day. I never got a call back and felt a little defeated. I am desperately trying to figure out how I am going to survive during this corona virus pandemic. Being it is a small town credit union, I thought and hoped that they would see me, my excellent job history, and my promise to pay back the loan....than the computers automated response which was an instant no. It was not easy for me to ask for this loan and if it wasn't for this pandemic....I would not have had to ask.

No accountability or communication. I waited an hour to talk to someone on the phone and then they sent me back to the main menu where I was put back in line to talk to someone. They don't confirm personal information and don't try to correct when someone is wrong. When something is going on with my account, I want to be able to be notified. I was told that someone "tried tell me" a year ago and no attempts were made after because they did not have the correct mailing address or phone number. Those are very critical for communication with your bank and something you fill out when you get an account with them. Absolutely ridiculous. What makes me more angry is that I was getting emails every month from Wauna, but not one about anything wrong. Take your money and business somewhere else.

The female manager in Scappoose needs fired. We had a rather minor debate about sending a wire transfer and a young man started yelling at me behind me in the line stating I was taking up too much time. I promptly encouraged him to mind his own business. He yelled at me telling me he would kill me. He did it directly in front of everyone in the bank. I promptly reminded him he was making this threat entirely under video surveillance. He didn’t care in the least. He proceeded to yell and the manager did absolutely nothing. She did not ask him to calm down. She did not ask him to leave. She did not call the police. She did nothing but give me hassle. It’s the only time in my 53 years of life I’ve had a death threat in a bank. Nothing was done about it. She needs let go. She is a very sorry excuse for a manager of anything.

Our Scappoose Wauna is great. Everyone behind the counter takes good care of us. My husband just got a car loan, they explained the process beautifully and it was easy. Thank you Amy, Christina, and McKenzie!

Wauna is a great small town credit union. They have hard working and friendly employees in their branches. Despite this I find working with Wauna difficult at times. I currently hold a number of loans with Wauna. Ive paid some loans off but theyll continue to charge me unless I call them and request that the automatic payment is turned off. That would be understandable like 10 years ago but not today. And this happens basically with every loan Ive paid off. Despite promising a full refund to your card they just transfer the amount to your Wauna savings account. Thats fine if Wauna is your only bank but in my case theyre not. Wauna is also really confused about automatic payments. We set the automatic payment up and then we are pestered by mail that our account is slightly past due - even though we setup the payments for the exact amount Wauna wants due. It makes no sense. We have had to make multiple phone calls. Rarely is it rectified on your first attempt. Lastly, when you go through the process to get a loan or sell a car there is always missing paper work. There is always follow-up calls asking you to come back down to the branch (again) because they are missing a dependency signature etc. There are some really wonderful, hard working people at Wauna. I suspect its not their fault, but rather their management or leaderships fault for creating the conditions that lead to these errors.

I grew up in a small town with very few banks. I have had a Wauna Credit Union account since I was little and used it a lot when I was in high school. The customer service was always excellent and I knew the tellers and manager on a first name basis. I mainly used it for a savings account but I never had any issues. Even though I rarely use it now, I still have kept the account open. I wish corporate banks could be more personal and authentic like this Credit Union.

I have been banking with Wauna for a couple years now, I switched from Bank of America and am very happy that I did! I love the local branches, the bankers are always friendly and even give a treat to my dog every time I come by. The only issue I have ever had was that one time a new employee made a mistake when I withdrew some cash. He gave me the cash, but also somehow deposited the same amount into my savings account. I called to let them know about the mistake and they cleared it up immediately. I did not want to get in trouble for taking extra money from them.
They have all the same perks as larger banks, with online and mobile banking and a variety of loan options. It is just cheaper and local!

This credit union is what a credit union is all about. They are really helpful and really friendly to me. I'm not a member of this specific credit union but I go into a branch every once in awhile to use their shared branching services. They treat me like one of their own. I'm always happy to go into this credit union whereas the same CANNOT be said about their cross-town rival, St. Helens Credit Union. At St Helens credit union they treat me like crap and steal my money with BS fees. I definitely recommend Wauna Credit Union.
